    • Preforms for producing annular parts of composite material are produced byinding a strip (1) of fibrous material around an elliptical mandrel (10) to produce an elliptical sleeve which can be cut obliquely, cutting taking place either before or after one or more densification steps. The cutting plane is inclined relative to the right cross section of the elliptical sleeve, and the inner and outer portions of the cut rings are machined to obtain circular elements. Such elements can produce annular parts of composite material having a reduced tendency to delanination under circumferential stress. The superposed layers are needling together during winding. A uniform needling density per unit area can be obtained by controlled displacement of the needle board (5) and of the elliptical mandrel (10) relative to each other as the mandrel turns, to compensate for the eccentricity of the cross section of the mandrel. These methods are particularly suitable for producing brake disk preforms.

    • The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for the production of wound sandwich structures, wherein the inner shell, made of a galss-reinforced plastic, is prepared in a known way, then solid core elements are wound onto the inner shell, and finally an outer shell, made of a glass-reinforced plastic, is formed on the wound core. Thus rigid articles (e.g. containers), consisting of inner and outer shells of glass-reinforced plastic and a core of wound core elements, are obtained. The core elements are wound up by forwarding the individual elements directly one after another onto a thread which carries the core elements, presses them onto the rotating mandrel, and is also wound up, or by forming a flexible band by adhesion, from the core elements and the carrier thread or band, and this flexible band is wound up. The inner and outer shells, and the surface of the core material are prepared preferably on a conventional winding machine, provided with auxiliary equipments according to the invention.The wound sandwich structures prepared according to the invention are several times higher in mechanical strength than the articles made by the known techniques.

    • A machine installation for the manufacture of a thick-walled insulating pipe of elastic, laminatable foamed synthetic resin sheet material, includes an apparatus for effecting the lamination of a foamed synthetic resin sheet material to form a multilayer insulating pipe having a length corresponding to the sheet width of the sheet of foam material and a finishing unit. One holding arm is associated with a band cutter for trimming the end faces of the insulating pipe product, and another holding arm is associated with a blade for slitting the insulating pipe along its length.
