    • An image processing apparatus converts first image data of a first resolution N to second image data of a second resolution M, which is lower than the first resolution N, so as to output the second image data. The apparatus includes a processing unit for determining the position of a target pixel in the first image data in accordance with the ratio of the second resolution M to the first resolution N. The position of the target pixel is then used to define an area in which pixel values in the defined area are used to generate pixel values. The image processing apparatus also includes a selection signal generating unit for generating a selection signal in accordance with the target pixel value and an attribute signal representing the attribute of the target pixel. Also included in the image processing apparatus is an output unit for selecting one of the pixel values generated by the processing unit by using the selection signal so as to output the selected value as the second image data.

    • A printing apparatus performs printing by scanning a printhead having an array of printing elements in which a plurality of printing elements are arranged in a predetermined direction, over a printing medium according to control information and image data transmitted from a host apparatus. Setting information designating some of the printing elements to be used for printing in the printing elements in the printhead according to a predetermined printing parameter is transmitted as control information from the host apparatus to the printing apparatus in the printing apparatus, the printing elements to be used are set according to the setting information. Data to be printed by the printing elements used for printing in correspondence with scanning is generated in the host apparatus and transmitted as image data from the host. The printing apparatus performs printing by driving the set printing elements according to the image data during scanning. Control relating settings of printing parameters in the printing apparatus is thus simplified to effectively reduce the capacity of a memory and the number of gates of a logic circuit provided in the printing apparatus. The manufacturing cost and the size of the printing apparatus are thereby reduced.

    • An output control apparatus is used in an output apparatus adapted to form image data by analyzing an instruction received from an external apparatus and to output thus formed image data. The output control apparatus includes a memory for memorizing, in case of a change in the state in the apparatus, an identification code corresponding to the change, and an instruction unit for providing a test output instruction for instructing the output of set value information of the output apparatus. Also included is a control unit for controlling the output, if the identification code is memorized in the memory and in response to the instruction by the instruction unit, in such a manner as to output information corresponding to the identification code together with the set value information of the output apparatus.

    • A pulse width position modulator (PWPM) includes a digital delay circuit that outputs multiple subclocks according to a native pixel clock. The multiple subclocks are each skewed within different time periods of the native pixel clock period. A skew pulse generator receives the multiple subclocks from the digital delay circuit and outputs multiple subpixels according to different logical combinations of the multiple subclocks thereby providing increased subpixel output resolution using the native pixel clock. A clock skew synchronizer aligns the subpixels with a line synchronization signal. The clock skew synchronizer allows lines in a printed image to be aligned with the line synchronization signal within subpixel resolution without using high frequency sampling circuity.

    • Improved assistance is provided to an operator during jam recovery of an image-based financial document processing system used to process transaction items including debit and credit items. Information associated with a first group of transaction items is displayed after a jam condition has occurred to enable the operator to retrieve at least some of the transaction items of the first group of transaction items. Information associated with a second group of transaction items is displayed as the operator feeds transaction items from the second group of transaction items back into the system to reprocess these transaction items. The displayed information associated with the first group of transaction items and the displayed information associated with the second group of transaction items are compared to determine if a transaction item from the first group and a transaction item from the second group match. When a match is found, a determination is made as to which operations of the system, if any, have yet to be completed for the particular matched transaction item. Operations which have yet to be completed for the particular matched transaction item are selectively performed. When a match is unable to be found, an operator is able to either force a match between a transaction item from the first group of transaction items and a transaction item from the second group of transaction items, or remove a transaction item from one of the first and second groups of transaction items.
