    • A matrix printing device includes a housing body which can effect a translational movement relative to a printing surface in use, a plurality of wires slidable in the housing body and each having one end for acting on the print surface as a result of a thrust exerted on the other end, and a plurality of oscillating operating members each of which can exert a thrust on a respective wire. Electromagnetic excitation circuits selectively oscillate each of the operating members from a rest position to a position of thrusting the respective wire. The operating members are fixed to a single resilient support element. The position of fixing of each operating member to the support element and the resilient properties of the support element determine, respectively, the path of oscillation of the operating member and the degree of resilient force which returns the member to the rest position.

    • The present invention is a rotatable print head in combination with a multiple print station printing apparatus which includes a movable carrier to which the rotatable carrier is pivotally coupled by an axial rod so that the rotatable print head may rotate substantially an angle of 90.degree., a frame and a driving mechanism which is mechanically coupled to the frame and which drives the movable carrier laterally across the frame in a direction, which is parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotatable print head. The printing apparatus also includes a first platen the print surface of which is disposed in a first plane which is substantially vertical and parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotatable print head and a second platen the print surface of which is disposed in a second plane which is substantially horizontal and also parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotatable print head whereby the rotatable print head may rotate into printing alignment with either the first platen or the second platen. The printing apparatus further includes a rotating mechanism which rotates the axial rod thereby rotating the rotatable print head and which is mechanically coupled to the movable carrier.

    • There is disclosed herein a dot matrix tilting print head assembly in which the print head is rotatably mounted in a frame. A solenoid is provided for rotating the print head a controlled distance so that printing occurs between previously printed dots. A pin extending from the print head is positioned into a larger diameter hole in the frame for controlling the distance to be one half of the center-to-center distance between printed dots. This entails maintaining very low tolerances for the mechanically moving parts. In addition, there is provided support members for allowing the removal of the print head alone from the frame means.

    • A high speed printing head comprises a circular array of stylii drivers for printing characters in a dot matrix format. Each driver includes a permanent magnet and bucking coil electromagnet which when energized causes a stylus to impact a printing surface. The stylus is carried on the end of an arm supported by crossed horizontal and vertical supporting flexures at its other end whereby the arm pivots about a virtual axis lying near the plane of the working air gap of the electromagnet to reduce wear of the pole piece and armature and increase impact rebound of the arm. The magnetic structure and arm structure intersect only above the pole piece reducing flux leakage and size and weight of the structure. The arm and flexure structures are non-magnetic except at said region of intersection to reduce, in conjunction with the single region of intersection of said structures, cross-talk between adjacent drivers.
