    • A system and a method is disclosed for monitoring tension and detecting slip of industrial belts (e.g. V, flat, and Timing belts) while in running condition on belt drives by using ultrasonic transducers. The sensing part involves two ultrasonic transducers which are installed on an assembly which is placed within a constrained space between the tension side and slack side of belt. Acoustic waves having predefined amplitude are sent from transmitting transducer on the belt and amplitude of the signal reflected from the belt is measured and compared with a threshold value to detect reduced tension. Additionally, acoustic plugs are mounted on driver and driven pulley locknuts to blank the reflected signal periodically. The time period of the blanking of signals from the pulleys is computed and it measures the rotational speed (revolutions per minute: rpm) of the pulleys. This rpm is used to calculate the rotational speeds of the pulleys. The rotational speeds of the driver and driven pulleys are compared with respect to the theoretical speeds inversely proportional to the diameters of the pulleys to detect the slip of the belt. The apparatus generates an alert to user when the belt tension is reduced and/or when slip is detected. The processing circuit involves a microcontroller with Wi-Fi module to send the alert messages to remote location such as cloud and/or to user interface devices such as computers or mobile phones.

    • A misaligned belt sensing apparatus determines when a conveyor belt becomes misaligned, indicating repair or replacement are required. At least one sensing apparatus is placed nearly in contact with the belt which produces heat due to friction between the belt and the apparatus when it comes in contact with same due to misalignment. The sensed temperature is compared to threshold values and indicates when the conveyor belt has become misaligned, as well as determining operational wear status of the sensing apparatus after a number of such misalignments. Each heat sensing apparatus comprises at least one thermally conductive plate where a moving misaligned belt rubs against the thermally conductive plate and generates heat due to friction between the moving belt and the thermally conductive plate, where each plate has one or more independent temperature sensing elements for misalignment detection and indication, also detecting wear status of the plates of the apparatus.

    • An apparatus for handling and conveying packages includes a conveyor frame for housing a combination roller-slider bed and a belt mounted on the combination roller-slider bed to define a package-supporting conveyor surface. The conveyor drive includes a drive pulley in contact with the belt, a gearbox coupled directly to the drive pulley and an electric motor coupled directly to the gearbox. The shaft of the drive pulley is designed to fit within the output shaft of the gearbox. The motor and gearbox are mounted adjacent to but outside of the conveyor frame. Electrical or mechanical system associated with the apparatus controls the speed and acceleration of the belt.

    • To synchronize the belt of a conveyor, a scanner, a fluorescent lamp, and an LED display unit of an area meter, the main AC power supply of the area meter drives the conveyor belt through a synchronous motor and supplies the same frequency of power to a phase locked loop. The phase locked loop provides synchronous pulses of higher frequencies to the scanning system, fluorescent lamp and LED display unit to maintain synchronism. The resolution of the measuring system is optimized when changes are made in the size of the area that is scanned by adjusting: (1) the lens of the scanner; (2) the rate of readout of the pulses from the scanner; and (3) the decimal place of the display unit. Travel from side to side of the belt is avoided by individually adjusting the ends of the pulleys until the belt runs true and an idler which lifts both bottom and top run of the belt when an object moves under it prevents slippage of the belt with respect to the rollers and the bite of the conveyor is adjustable.

    • Disclosed is an electronic sensor and control for monitoring the rate of transport of grain elevator buckets, the electronic control including a metal detector probe for sensing the passage of the buckets past the head and a control module for processing the signals from the head to produce a D-C voltage proportional to the bucket transport rate. Trigger networks responsive to the D-C voltage activate appropriate alarms and shut-down of various phases of the grain elevator operations. An automatic calibration control enables calibration of the D-C voltage for different desired rated speeds of the bucket transport.
