    • A transportation device includes a first roller that transports a sheet-shaped medium from an upstream to downstream in a transporting direction; a guide member that has a guide section extended along the transporting direction and is arranged upstream of the first roller in the transporting direction; and a second roller that is movable between a correcting position where the second roller pinches the sheet-shaped medium with the first roller and corrects a curl of the sheet-shaped medium, and a standby position where the second roller separates from the transporting passage further than the correcting position, wherein the guide member is movable to an escaping position that is separated from a moving passage that is from the correcting position to the standby position of the second roller if the second roller moves to the correcting position.

    • A sheet of material is received at a sensor assembly, which includes a sensor operable to measure a property of the sheet. An air flow is generated that is substantially tangential to the sheet in order to at least partially control a position of the sheet relative to the sensor assembly. For example, the sheet may be associated with an upstream boundary layer of air and a downstream boundary layer of air. At least part of the air from the upstream boundary layer could be removed and used to provide an air flow forming at least part of the downstream boundary layer. Also, the air flow could be provided between a surface of the sensor assembly and the sheet to at least partially control a distance of the sheet from the surface of the sensor assembly and/or an angle at which the sheet passes the surface of the sensor assembly.

    • The invention relates to a manufacturing method of an image recording medium wherein during the process of cutting a long roll body of the medium into sheet like product the curl tendency, a cause of poor printer feedability, is removed, and at the same time the generation of cracking in a recording layer is suppressed. In the manufacturing method a web of a long roll body, a sheet like material of a paper substrate with thermoplastic resin layers formed on both surfaces one of which also has a recording layer with the long roll body wound such that this recording layer surface is on the outside, is unwound into a cutting device whilst at the same time a straightening element of a roller of diameter between 8 mm and 16 mm is pressed against the side of the recording layer with a wrap angle that is less than 60 degrees.

    • A decurl roller 22 of a decurl unit 20 is an axially rotatable member that eliminates curl of printing paper 24 drawn out of roll paper holders 21b. The decurl roller 22 is pressed by tension springs 23b, which are respectively spanned between the periphery of a roll paper shaft 21a of roll paper 21 and a roller shaft 22a of the decurl roller 22, to be continuously in contact with a cylindrical face of the roll paper 21 wound in a cylindrical roll. The decurl roller 22 moves to approach the roll paper shaft 21a with a decrease in remaining amount of the roll paper 21. As the remaining amount of the roll paper 21 decreases, the decurl roller 22 linearly moves along guide rails 23c, which are formed in support members 23a, toward an eccentric position from the roll paper shaft 21a to increase a contact area and a contact angle ∠PQR of the decurl roller 22 with the printing paper 24.
