    • A slay and reed assembly for use on textile machines includes a reed having dents disposed in an upper and lower channel. A reciprocating motion slay with clamping device is used to carry the reeds and moves the reeds towards and away from a fabric fell line wherein the dents beat-up filler yarns into the fabric fell line. The clamping device includes a recess for receiving the lower channel of the reed. The recess has an essentially vertical front face that is at an angle of essentially 90.degree. with the fabric fell line when the slay is in the beat-up position. The reed is received within the slay so that the dents are disposed to form an angle greater than 90.degree. with respect to the fabric fell line when the slay is in the beat-up position and the vertical front face of the clamping device is perpendicular to the fabric fell line.

    • In a loom having mechanically driven weft thread insertion members, a weaving reed and a guide element for a weft thread gripper cooperate with one another, so that the guide element guidedly runs along the reed to provide an positive guidance for the gripper while it inserts a weft thread. To achieve this, each one of the reed teeth (6) has a profile recess (6D) therein between the upper and lower reed frame members (1A, 1B). The recesses are aligned with each other to form a guide channel across the width of the weaving reed (1). A protruding extension (13A) of the guide element (13) mounted on the gripper (12) is temporarily guidingly connected or engaged with the guide groove as the weft thread insertion members reach into and out of the loom shed.

    • A pneumatic loom having at least two blow nozzles arranged in a bundle, is equipped with a weft thread insertion alignment device (2) located in a fixed position between the blow nozzles and the weft thread guide channel formed by the reed teeth. The alignment device (2) has an alignment slot having a funnel-shape receiving the weft threads at a wide inlet opening and leading the weft threads to a narrower outlet opening. The alignment slot extends along at least a portion of the path followed by the reed teeth on their beat-up motion. One end of the alignment slot is open toward the weft thread cutting scissors for exit of the weft threads. Weft threads waste is kept very low by the location of all relevant components close to each other. The effectiveness of the scissors is not impaired at all. The time available for the weft thread insertion is increased which means that the r.p.m. of the loom can be increased.

    • Fiber reinforced plastic products are produced in such a way that there is uniform resin dispersion throughout the product. Fabric is woven on a loom, and the reed dents of the loom are varied from the center to the edges of the fabric so that when the strain in the wrap and weft yarns is released once the fabric is removed from the loom, the fabric has uniform porosity. After removal of the fabric from the loom it is impregnated with a resin, such as epoxy, phenolic, or polyester resins, dried, formed into a desired product shape (as by molding), and the resin is cured. The loom reed utilized to produce the fabric has parallel frame portions with parallel reed wires extending between the frame portions with the dent size larger at edge sections of the reed than at intermediate sections, and with the dent size at intermediate sections larger than the dent size at a central section.

    • A reed A for a loom is disclosed which includes a front row B of dents 30 on the beat-up side of the frame and a back row C of dents 34 staggered in alignment with dents 30. The front reed dents will offer a strong reed to the beat-up. Since the back reed is required only to separate the adjacent warp ends it is made as flexible as possible by increasing the height. In this way, the back reed offers less resistance to the yarn passage reducing the lint buildup between the dents and increase efficiency by offering a larger opening to the warp yarns.
