    • A system and method for providing auxiliary power to a large diesel engine allowing shutdown of such large engine in all weather conditions. An auxiliary power unit made up of a secondary engine coupled to an electrical generator is provided. An automatic control system shuts down the primary engine after a period of idling and the auxiliary power unit provides electrical power for heating and air conditioning. In cold weather, the auxiliary power unit maintains the primary engine coolant and lube-oil warm to facilitate engine restart. The coolant system is kept warm using a heat exchanger and electrical heaters. The lube-oil system is kept warm using a recirculating pump and electrical heaters. In warm weather, the auxiliary power unit provides electrical power for air conditioning and other hotel loads. The auxiliary power unit isolates the primary engine batteries during operation and provides electrical power for hotel and non-vital loads.

    • A rotary piston engine (20) is shown that includes a housing (22) having a toroidal working chamber with inlet (56) and exhaust (54) ports.     • In an internal combustion engine with a combustion heater for elevating a temperature of an engine related element, an object of the present invention is to provide a technique that may effectively performs temperature elevation of an exhaust gas purifying device. In order to attain this object, according to the present invention, the internal combustion engine having an exhaust gas purifying catalyst provided in an exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine, and a combustion heater comprising a combustion chamber and a heat exchange portion for transmitting to an engine related element heat held by burnt gas that has been burnt in said combustion chamber, characterized by including a first burnt gas discharging portion for discharging from the combustion heater the burnt gas which has passed through the heat exhcange portion, a second burnt gas discharging portion for discharging from the combustion heater the burnt gas which has not yet passed through the heat exchange portion, and a burnt gas passage controlling unit for supplying at least one of burnt gas discharged by the first burnt gas discharging portion and burnt gas discharged by the second burnt gas discharging portion to the exhaust gas purifying catalyst.

    • The combustion heater when operates at a cold time increases a temperature of engine cooling water, and includes a combustion chamber in which the combustion takes place, an air supply passageway through which the air for the combustion is supplied to the combustion chamber, a heating plug for igniting a combustion fuel within the combustion chamber, and a combustion gas discharge passageway for discharging from the combustion chamber a combustion gas burned in the combustion chamber. Of the air supply passageway and the combustion gas discharge passageway, at least the combustion gas discharge passageway is connected to an intake passageway of the engine, through which the intake air flows toward the cylinders of the engine. The combustion heater has an air suction fan for regulating a quantity of air supplied to the combustion chamber via the air supply passageway, and an ECU which includes a CPU for controlling an operating state of the air suction fan according to an engine rotational speed.
