    • Disclosed is a heat storage type waste gas purification apparatus which comprises: a combustion chamber configured to combust and decompose a component contained in waste gas; a plurality of heat storage chambers each having one end communicating with the combustion chamber and each comprising a heat storage body; a plurality of supply inlets each equipped with an on-off valve and each provided at the other end of a respective one of the heat storage chambers to selectively supply waste gas thereto; a plurality of discharge outlets each equipped with an on-off valve and each provided at the other end of a respective one of the heat storage chambers to selectively discharge treated waste gas therefrom; a discharge passage connected to the discharge outlets to discharge the treated waste gas to an outside of the apparatus therethrough; a plurality of bypass passages each connecting between the combustion chamber and the discharge passage, wherein each of the bypass passages is connected to the combustion chamber at a position directly above a respective one of the heat storage chambers, and equipped with an on-off valve; and a control section operable, when a temperature of one of the heat storage chambers becomes equal to or greater than a given value, to open one or more of the on-off valves of the bypass passages so as to discharge a part of waste gas in the combustion chamber via the opened one or more bypass passages.

    • A heater for a liquid has a combustion chamber, a jacket for the liquid extending about the combustion chamber and a burner head assembly connected to the combustion chamber. The burner head assembly includes a housing having a burner mounted thereon and a hollow interior. A control module and a fan are mounted in the hollow interior, the fan being connected to an electric motor. A compressor and a fuel pump are mounted on the housing and are operatively connected to the electric motor. The control module may include controls for exercising components of the heater prior to combustion, thereby verifying operation of these components. Preferably there is a speed control for the motor, such as a closed loop speed control which regulates motor speed and accordingly output of the heater. Preferably there is a backup system using a lookup table in the event that the closed loop speed control fails. Also preferably there is provision for monitoring flame sensor functionality by providing an indicator light which mirrors operation of the flame sensor. The heater may have a selective soft start for the coolant pump which operates only when required so as to reduce unnecessary chatter on the motor relay. A system is also provided for distinguishing true overcurrent faults from overcurrents arising from voltage changes during starting of the vehicle engine. Reignition algorithms are provided to restart the burner in the event of flame sputters caused, for example, by fuel bubbles, but shut off the heater in the event that the fuel is truly cut off.

    • A device for an oil burner has a ceramic tube (1) inside which a shorter tube (61) is arranged, so that there is a slot between the tubes. The device stands freely in the combustion room of the boiler, and it is coaxial with an oil burner (66) that is mounted in the boiler room wall. Combustion fumes mixed with fresh air from the fan of the oil burner is sucked into the slot that ends inside the ceramic tube. The oil burner flame in the inner tube (61) heats this inner tube that in turn heats the air that is sucked through the slot and is secondary combustion air. The slot has screw-formed ridges that impart a heavy rotation to the secondary air; a rotation that is counter to the rotation of the primary air of the burner. Since the secondary air is hot and rotates heavily, the final combustion will be very efficient.

    • A fuel-fired air heating furnace is provided with NOx reduction apparatus associated with a plurality of combustor tubes forming a portion of the furnace heat exchanger section. Inshot-type fuel burners are spaced apart from and face the open inlet ends of horizontal combustion sections of the combustor tubes. The NOx reduction apparatus includes a plurality of NOx reduction members formed from a metal rod material, and a mounting plate having a row of spaced apart pairs of mounting holes therein. Each NOx reduction member has an elongated, generally U-shaped configuration, with a closed inner end, an open outer end, and a spaced pair of corrugated leg portions extending between such inner and outer ends. The NOx reduction members are installed in a parallel relationship on the mounting plate, with their closed ends facing in the same direction, by resiliently deflecting the leg portions of each member toward each other, inserting the outer leg ends in one of the mounting plate hole pairs, and then releasing the legs. With the NOx reduction members secured to the mounting plate in this manner, they are simultaneously inserted closed ends first into their associated combustor tubes, and the mounting plate suitably supported adjacent the combustor tube inlets. The burners are then positioned to inject flames into the combustor tubes with the NOx reduction members positioned therein to operatively intercept the incoming burner flames.
