    • In an image display device such as a TV set, a playing sound generating method generates a sound without using a separate sound source integrating device and also generates a playing sound using the generated sound. To achieve the method, there is provided a playing sound generating apparatus which includes: a key signal input unit setting various functions and having keys for inputting a scale to be generated; an input interface unit receiving and processing a key signal outputted from the key signal input unit; a unit sound data storing unit storing pulse generating data in order to generate specific unit sounds such as a scale; a control unit reading unit sound data stored in the unit sound data storing unit when a specific unit sound or playing sound generation requiring signal is inputted through the input interface unit and generating a sound signal of a square wave type in accordance with the unit sound data; a frequency divider dividing a referential oscillating signal outputted from an oscillator into a predetermined frequency; a timer outputting an interrupt signal to the control unit by counting an output signal of the oscillator after being set by the control unit with a value of the corresponding unit sound data; and an output interface unit externally outputting the sound signal generated from the control unit.

    • A method and system for extracting melodic patterns by first recognizing musical “keywords” or themes. The invention searches for all instances of melodic (intervallic) repetition in a piece (patterns). This process generally uncovers a large number of patterns, many of which are either uninteresting or are only superficially prevalent. Filters reduce the number and/or prevalence of such patterns. Patterns are then rated according to characteristics deemed perceptually significant. The top ranked patterns correspond to important thematic or motivic musical content. The system operates robustly across a broad range of styles, and relies on no metadata on its input, allowing it to independently and efficiently catalog multimedia data.

Where the enhanced mode is set for plural channels 2 and 6 (between time C and time D), manipulation of an enhanced mode clear switch SC (at time D) causes cancellation of the prominent manner of playback at the channels 2 and 6 as well as the suppressed manner of playback at the channels 1, 3-5.

    • A waveform data processing apparatus includes a waveform data recording device which records waveform data representing waveform samples, and a waveform events track recording device which records, on a waveform events track defining a musical progression with respect to time, waveform event data representing events for employing waveform samples to constitute a musical performance as the alignment of the waveform samples. The waveform event data contains trigger signals at time points where respectively corresponding ones of the waveform samples are to be employed along the musical progression on the waveform events track. As the waveform events track is played back, the respective trigger signals serve to trigger the playback of the corresponding waveform samples to constitute a musical performance with such waveform samples. Each of the waveform samples represented by the waveform data defines a musical tone having a build-up point. The waveform data may be split at a build-up point to form waveform sub-samples, while the waveform event data will further contain trigger signals corresponding to the split sub-samples. Other than splitting, further editions are available such as deletion, insertion, copying and pasting of a part or parts of the waveform data.
