    • An elapsed time and remaining time liquid crystal measuring device having a display face around the periphery of which there are a plurality of numerical indicia marks arranged in a generally clockwise pattern with successive numerical indicia marks decreasing in numerical value in a clockwise direction from a twelve o'clock position. An annular ring of electronically generated graphic indicia are visible on the display face and spaced inwardly from the peripheral numerical indicia and a digital numerical read-out display of elapsed times is visible internally of the annular ring of graphic indicia. There is at least one electronic control element for setting a desired elapsed set time into the device, which desired elapsed set time is indicated both on the digital read-out display and as a complete ring or an arcuate section of the annular ring on the display face. There is also an actuator for initiating progressive clockwise disappearing movement of the electronically generated graphic indicia so as to expose decreasing areas of the annular ring in a clockwise direction as time elapses and while the digital numerical display remains synchronized with the graphic indicia until all of the set time has elapsed. Preferably, the device is in the form of a wrist watch.

    • The present invention provides hardware-based synchronization within a device such as a set top box so that sets of data values can be communicated between a set of DCR registers operating at a first frequency and a set of clock register operating at a second frequency. Specifically, to communicate an initial set of data values from the set of DCR registers to the set of clock registers, a control signal is stretched and then synchronized with a clock signal having the second frequency. To communicate a current set of data values from the set of clock registers to the set of DCR registers, the control signal is synchronized with a clock signal having the first frequency. By communicating the current set of data values to the first set of registers, a hardware component (e.g., a CPU) can access the current set of data values without restriction.

    • A digital electronic timepiece having a multi-digit digital display for displaying the time count in a time counter which receives a divided down time signal from a time base signal generator. At least one settable time counter for storing a count corresponding to a desired time period is provided which is receptive of a time signal for decrementing the count thereof to zero. A plurality of display driving signals, each corresponding to one digit of display are generated wherein the display signals of successive digits are phase delayed with respect to each other and the frequency thereof is sufficiently low to produce visible flickering of display. Upon the sensing of the zero count in the timer counter, the display which is normally non-flickering, is driven with the display driving signals to produce a sequential flickering of the digits of the time display to provide a visual indication of the lapse of the desired time period.
