摘要： A description is given of a cuboidal multipack for vertically stacked magnetic recording media, comprising a rectangular pallet, a baseplate and top plate and wound roll sets stacked between two intermediate plates in each case, the tape rolls being wound up on flangeless winding hubs provided with internal bores, through which a hub sleeve is inserted, the pack being protected by edges and side parts and a stretch film being drawn around the entire unit. To be able to stack a large number of wound rolls one on top of the other without the risk of damaging the edges of the tape rolls, each intermediate plate, which is provided on its upper side and under side with a ring groove, is supported by means of the end face of the hollow-cylindrical hub sleeve by the next-lower intermediate plate, so that merely the wound pack accommodated in one set is placed with its weight able to bear on an intermediate plate. The intermediate plates may include on their outer edges projections and grooves assigned to them, so that they are able to be transported stacked one on top of the other on the same pallet in return shipment. It is assured by the material selection of the multipack that the entire pack part can be brought into a clean room without the risk of dust and can be taken off with little effort.

The adjacent base and side walls can be oriented ar right angles to each other to form a U-shape. The storage container is formed by mating the two U-shaped sections so that the side edges of the side walls of the U-shape on one section are disposed adjacent the side edges of the side walls of the other U-shape to form edges of the storage container. The two sections are secured together using a tongue and groove connection to mate the sections along respective edges.

A latch bar rotatable with the knob is engageable with a ramped ledge in a protruding hub of the base. Rotating the knob secures the shipping case lid to the base. The knob includes a lock operator pivotally attached within a channel formed in a bowl of the knob. A lock beam of the lock operator, upon rotation of the knob, is engageable with any one of a plurality of detents formed in the lid that define the open, closed and locked states of the shipping case. A resilient spring plank formed integrally with the lock operator engages a recess formed in the knob and acts to bias the lock beam into engagement with the detents. A fastener assembly mounts the latch bar to the knob.

摘要： Pancakes of recording tape are packaged using stiff, expanded-plastic spacers, each having a web against which pancakes can rest in a stack of alternating pancakes and spacers. Each web terminates in an annular recess from which at least one deformable protuberance projects, and the core of each pancake is pinched between facing proturberances. A protective or reinforcing rim at the outer periphery of each web is sufficiently thin not to touch the rims so that each pancake can be held tightly against the adjacent webs while the stack is under axial compression, e.g., by a plastic shrinkwrap. By thus restraining both each pancake and its core, there is no core drop, upset or core rotation, problems besetting prior packages of pancakes of magnetic recording tape.
