    • A gas-insulated switchgear includes a tank filled with an electrically insulating gas, first and second conductors disposed within the tank, a disconnector for disconnecting the first conductor and the second conductor from each other, and a grounding switch for grounding the first conductor when the disconnector is in an open position. The disconnector includes a first and second fixed electrode disposed on the first and second conductors, respectively, a bridging movable electrode that is always maintained in contact with the first electrode and that is slidably movable for contacting with and separating from the second fixed electrode to connect and disconnect the first and second fixed electrodes, and an operating mechanism for opening and closing operation of the movable electrode. The grounding switch includes the bridging movable electrode which is in contact with the first contact, and a third fixed grounding electrode disposed to the tank capable of contacting with the movable electrode when the movable electrode is separated from the second electrode. The operating mechanism is provided with an electrically insulating operating rod extending through the first fixed electrode in the direction of movement of the movable electrode.

    • An earthing switch for gas-insulated switchgear apparatus is disclosed, in which conductor within an enclosure is provided with a stationary contact, and a moving contact is movably provided to connect with and disconnect from the stationary contact by an operating mechanism within an operating mechanism case which is mounted on a branch tube of the enclosure interposing an insulating plate therebetween. For connecting the moving contact to the enclosure electrically, a plurality of earthing bars are employed, and further, directions of electromagnetic forces generated between the moving contact and individual earthing bars are considered in the connection of the earthing bars. By virtue of the connection of the plurality of earthing bars, the influence of the electromagnetic forces acting on the moving contact can be reduced to a great extent.

    • A disconnect switch and grounding apparatus therefor particularly adapted for use in gas insulated substations. The disconnect switch comprises a chamber having a pair of electrical conductors entering the chamber. Supporting the conductors and insulating them from contact with the chamber itself are insulators, which may be sealingly placed so as to prohibit the escape of the gas. A fixed contact member electrically attached to the first of the pair of conductors and a movable contact member is electrically attached to the second pair of conductors. A movement mechanism to move the movable contact members so as to make and break contact with the fixed contact member. A grounding strip electrically attached to the movable contact member, positioned so as to come in contact with the chamber wall immediately after the breaking of contact between the fixed and the movable contact members. The movement mechanism comprises a linkage having two links, the first link attached at one end to the movable contact member and the other end connected to the second link, the other end of the second link being connected to a shaft member. The shaft member sealingly extends through the wall of the chamber having attached to it on the outside of the chamber a handle for causing the shaft to rotate. The shaft upon rotation engages the linkage causing the movable contact member to make or break contact with the fixed contact member and respectively the ground strip to move away from or come in contact with the wall of the chamber.

    • A metal-clad, high-voltage switchgear assembly is disclosed for an electrical conductor wherein the rotational symmetry of the electric field of the conductor is maintained. The switchgear assembly has a metal enclosure containing the conductor arranged to extend along the axis of the enclosure. The conductor is supported with respect to the enclosure by disc-shaped insulators that partition the enclosure into fluid-tight compartments separated from each other. A disconnect switch is arranged at a gap in the line of the conductor , the gap being defined by mutually adjacent end portions of the conductor. The switch includes a cylinder formed in one of the end portions of the conductor so as to define a cylinder chamber that communicates with the compartments. A piston switching member is slideably mounted in the cylinder and moves to mutually connect and disconnect the end portions of the conductor in response to changes in fluid pressure in the compartments.
