    • An assembly and method for generating mass torque having a frame structure supporting at least one torque generating wheel coupled to a rotational load. The torque generating wheel has peripheral circumferential veins of spaced magnetic or non-magnetic keys which are driven by an electro-mechanical control system including a plurality of electromagnetic coils and a timing circuit. The timed activation of the electro-mechanical control system on the magnetic (or non-magnetic) keys accelerate the generating wheel to rotate at a high rotational speed to generate a high level of torque output. The wheel structure is a large diameter structure constructed of a plurality of radial segments, each segment formed of a strong, lightweight and reinforced material.

    • A spherical motor (10) that includes an outer field sphere (12) and an inner armature sphere (14) rotatable therein. Field magnetic elements (26) are disposed on the field sphere (12) and sensor/actuator magnetic elements (42) are disposed on the armature sphere (14). The field magnetic elements (26) include two coils (28, 30) providing regularly varying magnetic fields in two axes. The sensor/actuator magnetic elements (42) include coils (44-54) providing magnetic fields in three axes. Each sensor magnetic element (42) senses its localized magnetic field variations and generates a torque relative thereto. Over one complete field variation of the field magnetic elements (26), each sensor magnetic element (42) can produce torque about all three axes.

    • An in-line integrated drive generator including a constant speed drive unit having an input shaft defining an axis, an output including a differential on the axis and a control interconnecting the input shaft and the output to cause the output to rotate at a constant speed independent of the speed of a prime mover connected to the input shaft. A brushless generator assembly having a main field structure and an exciter rotor are disposed on the axis and are connected to the output to be driven thereby. A permanent magnet generator for energizing the exciter includes a permanent magnet assembly rotatable about the axis and contained within the constant speed drive unit. The invention provides an in-line drive generator with minimal frontal area as well as a shortened axial length.
