    • An invertor-controlled power unit includes an invertor circuit which performs switching control of direct current output from a direct current power source circuit in response to a driving signal. A bridge balanced circuit is connected to a pair of output lines extending from an output circuit of the power unit. The bridge balanced circuit has at least two balanced points and comprises a plurality of impedance elements connected to the pair of output lines. One of the balanced points is grounded. A potential difference between the one of the balanced points and another of same is detected, and a detection signal indicative of the potential difference is produced. When the detection signal falls outside a predetermined range, i.e. it is determined that a leak occurs, a stoppage instruction signal is produced to stop the supply of the driving signal to the invertor circuit.

    • A method and a switching arrangement are provided for regulating a two-dimensional vector of a controlled system with a discrete value final controlling element having a limited switching frequency. The discrete value final controlling element also has limited number of actual-value vectors. A switching arrangement, such as a microprocessor, receives actual values for the two-dimensional vector as well as a reference vector and selects three actual-value vectors that are adjacent to the reference vector. The switching arrangement generates a reference trajectory which represents a sequence of vector settings for the discrete value final controlling element. A switch from one actual-value vector to another takes place when the distance between the two-dimensional vector and a next corner point of the reference trajectory is at a minimum. The resulting mean value of the generated two-dimensional vector is equal to the reference vector.

During pulsed operation of asynchronous rotating machinery, driven by a current intermediary circuit frequency converter with phase sequence quenching, an interfering instantaneous voltage ripple occurs due to the inverter minimum time required for the completion of a complete commutation. The operating capacity of the inverter is not imparied, even if the switch-on time of individual thyristors falls below the minimum time. Depending on the degree of incomplete commutation occurring in the process, a difference is made beween one of a "first kind" and one of the "second kind" and, in the case of the second kind, the duration of the actual switch-on pulses for maintaining a linear relationship between the current time area and the nominal pulse duration is advantageously adapted through a correction function.

    • An overcurrent detector for an inverter is provided, which detector includes a filter capacitor and snubber circuits, and comprises: a first circuit which detects a current flowing through the DC main circuit of the inverter and provides a first signal in proportion to the magnitude of this current; a second circuit which generates a second signal corresponding to the magnitude of snubber currents flowing through said snubber circuits; and a third circuit which generates a third signal corresponding to the difference between the first signal and the second signal. The third signal is an output signal of the overcurrent detector, a protection circuit of the inverter being made operative by this third signal.

    • An optically-triggered converter directly changes the frequency of an incoming voltage waveform to half frequency thereby causing an induction motor, driving a ventilation fan or the like, to operate at half speed. At this lower speed, the induction motor consumes significantly less power. A center-tapped power transformer is used to lower the magnitude of the incoming voltage waveform and a number of optically-triggered thyristor switches are connected between the transformer secondary and the induction motor. The novel trigger circuit includes a synchronous motor connected to receive the input voltage waveforms so that a cylinder attached thereto is rotated in synchronism with the input voltage waveforms. The optically-triggered thyristors are circumferentially positioned about the rotating cylinder and are triggered by a light pulse emerging through an aperture in the cylinder sidewall. The arrangement of the thyristors around the cylinder is selected so that the thyristors are enabled in a predetermined sequence forming fundamental three-phase half-frequency waveforms which are then presented to the induction motor.

    • A method and apparatus for controlling a resonant power module comprising a resonant power circuit which is coupled to a load. First and second switching elements are coupled to the resonant circuit for alternately supplying a flow of current. A control means is coupled to the trigger generator for operating the power module in a first mode in which the resonant circuit current is controlled by varying the repetition rate of the trigger signals. The control means operates the power module in a second mode by maintaining the trigger signal repetition rate at a fixed limit and controlling the resonant circuit current by varying the on/off duty cycle of the power module.
