A multi-frequency code receiving equipment comprises a number of receivers equipped with speech immunity circuits the outputs from which, i.e. E1 to En, Fig. 1, are fed to a code checking equipment C which gives an output D on receipt of a signal by any, or any particular combination, of the receivers. The output D initiates the operation of two timing devices Z 1 and Z2. Z1 produces an output after a delay tp if the output on D is maintained during this time, and this output X1 via an " OR " gate O provides an enabling input to the " AND " gates U1 to Un and thus passes signals from the receivers to the evaluating device in accordance with the received signals, the " AND " gates being self-holding on their receiver inputs since their outputs are coupled back to the inputs of " OR " gates O to On. When the received signals cease, signal D ceases, but the output X2 of timing circuit Z2 is maintained for a time tv, thus the enabling signal B is maintained for this time. The time tv is arranged to be just less than the minimum possible gap between signals and thus ensures that a gap in the received signal of less than the time tv has no effect on the signals A1 to An passed to the evaluating means and the register. A number of inhibit gates may be provided between the receivers and the " OR " gates O1 to On which gates are blocked by the signal B and thus prevent spurious signals on the receiver outputs from affecting the signals to the register during the evaluation period. The invention is a modification of the code receiving system described in Specification 980,155.

    • A call coverage arrangement in a telephone system. Any station served by the system may be assigned to a call coverage group as a principal station. A coverage group includes the identities of a plurality of call covering stations for the principal station and an indication of the order of preference of the covering stations. Call coverage criteria are stored for principal stations specifying circumstances under which calls intended for the principal stations are redirected to coverage. A covered call is redirected sequentially to each of the covering stations in a coverage group in the order of preference until the call is answered or abandoned. The coverage criteria include options based on both the state of a principal's station (active, busy, idle, etc.) and the class of an incoming call (internal, external, priority). Principal stations are equipped with a "send all calls" button. The button may be operated while a call is arriving to redirect the call without waiting for automatic coverage to take effect. To give a caller control over the disposition of a call scheduled for coverage, the caller is alerted at the time a coverage criterion is satisified that the call is scheduled for coverage. Thereafter, a short time interval is provided during which the caller may abandon, activate the automatic generation and storage of a callback message or wait for the call to be redirected to coverage.

    • A line unit interfaces voice band signals and wide band signals extending from D.C. into the voice band between an analog line and a digital telecommunication facility. The line unit includes an analog to digital converter, a control circuit for generating one of two control signals and a line circuit. The line circuit includes a hybrid circuit in a first signal path for carrying voice band analog signals, and a second signal path for carrying wide band analog signals from the analog line. The signals in either signal path are transmitted to the analog to digital converter for encoding by way of a first switch or a second switch connected in series with the first and second signal paths respectively. The first and second switches are alternately conductive in response to one or the other of the control signals respectively.
