    • A method for controlling errors in a wireless link layer using a simultaneous multiple copy scheme and an adaptive forward error correction (FEC) scheme in a wideband wireless communication is provided. The method for controlling errors in a link layer in wideband wireless communication using an automatic repeat request (ARQ) scheme, in which a wideband wireless channel is used for communication between a first node and a second node, includes the steps of (a) estimating the error ratio of a forward (a direction in which a cell is transmitted from the first node to the second node) channel using the state of a backward (a direction in which a cell is transmitted from the second node to the first node) channel, and transmitting a cell, in which a forward error correction (FEC) code having an encoding ratio that varies depending on the estimated error ratio is included in a protocol data unit (PDU) of a wireless link layer, through the forward channel and (b) re-transmitting the copy of a cell transmitted in the step (a), when feedback information that indicates that an error exists in the cell transmitted in the step (a) is received through the backward channel. It is possible to reduce the number of times of re-transmission by improving the probability of correcting forward errors using more error controlling bits as the state of the channel is worse and to minimize the waste of resources using less error controlling bits as the state of the channel is better, to thus obtain the optimal performance and guarantee the minimum delay time.

    • A method for performing 3/5 major voting in the TACS/AMPS mobile phone system, in which a word of the message frame is transmitted repeated five times and every bit of the word is given a value at reception by major voting of the five repeats. The number of ones or zeros of a bit C is counted at least to three. This number is saved as a binary two-bit number B′A′ in two memories (2, 3) so that the first (2) contains the least significant bit A′ of the number B′A′ and the second (3) contains the most significant bit B′ of the number B′A′. After the fifth repeat of the bit C, the final number of ones or zeros of the bit C has been counted and saved in the memories (2, 3) and voting is performed on the bit C based on bits A′ and B′ indicating the number of ones or zeros.

    • A system within a complementary logic circuit having a true tree and a complement tree, for correcting an illegal non-complementary output caused by a defect in either tree. A complementary logic circuit has a true tree for producing a true signal and a complement tree for producing a complement signal. The true signal is utilized to generate a true output signal from the complementary logic circuit and the complement signal is utilized to generate a complement output signal from the complementary logic circuit. Multiplexing means within the true and complement trees are utilized to selectively replace the true (complement) signal with the complement (true) signal within the true (complement) tree, such that the complement (true) tree is utilized to correct the occurrence of a proscribed non-complementary condition at the output of the complementary logic circuit to diagnose a defect during diagnostic testing or to override a defect during normal runtime operation.

    • A video camera having a control target which can be controlled by an external control apparatus via communication, and a control method of the video camera. In first memory of the video camera, predetermined standard control data for the control target is stored. When communication is established with an external control apparatus, control data from the external control apparatus is temporarily stored in second memory, and it is determined whether or not a communication error has occurred in the communication with the external control apparatus. If no error is detected in the determination, the control data stored in the second memory is stored in the third memory, but if an error is detected, the control data stored in the second memory is deleted, and the control target is controlled based on the control data stored in the third memory or predetermined standard data stored in the first memory.

    • Link-based flow control requires each link transmitter to retain packets until such time as they are acknowledged by the link receiver. Depending on the type of acknowledge, the transmitter will then either retry or de-allocate the packets. The NG I/O flow control of the present invention is credit based. At power up, each end of a link determines buffer size, deferring to the smaller implemented buffer if size is different. A transmitter will not send a packet unless buffer space at the receiver is available. Transmitter and receiver also synchronize on width of the link ID counter. Each link transmitter assigns an ordered ID (beginning with zero) to each sent packet. The link receiver tests the checksum of each delivered packet. If the packet tests with no error, the receiver sends a positive acknowledge (ACK) back to the transmitter. Flow control is either contained in its own packet or is appended to a packet assembling for transmission back. Some period of time can be consumed while the receiver attempts to acknowledge the transmitter. In the interests of efficiency, a receiver can ACK out-of-order to de-allocate buffer space for the named transaction and any other sequentially previous transactions outstanding at the transmitter. In exchange for this performance benefits, the receiver assumes responsibility for tracking transmit ID sequence. This audition activity reduces the opportunity for undetected packets. In the case of negative acknowledge (NAK), the transmitter may still de-allocate for sequentially previous transactions. NAK instructs the transmitter to resend the indicated packet and any packets that have been sent since then. Each transmitter has a configurable interval timer for the link acknowledge cycle. Each transmitter has a configurable iteration counter for NAK. Rather than congest the link, a transmitter that has run through either counter is obliged to return the undeliverable packet to its source.

    • The present invention relates generally to the detection of bits which are protected by repetition, and which, along with their repetitions, have associated soft values available which give a measurement of the reliability of their received values. In particular, the present invention may be used in speech encoding in the GSM mobile communications system, and more particularly to the detection of those class 2 bits called pulse5 bits which are not protected with channel coding. In enhanced full rate (EFS) transmission in GSM there are 4 bits called pulse5 bits. These pulse5 bits are duplicated twice, giving three bits for each original bit, for a total of twelve pulse5 bits. These bits have associated soft values, a probability measure of their reliability, that are produced by the equalizer. These associated soft values are then used in the present invention to improve detection of these pulse5 bits over the state of the art which detects the pulses bits only using a majority decision among the 3 bits generated, without using their associated soft values.
