    • A video signal dropout compensation circuit is provided in a reproducing apparatus which reproduces a recorded signal from a recording medium recorded with a time-division-multiplexed signal which has been frequency modulated. The apparatus frequency-demodulates a reproduced frequency modulated time-division-multiplexed signal in a demodulator, and time base expands a time base compressed line-sequential color difference signal and a time base compressed luminance signal within a reproduced time-division-mulitplexed signal back to an original time base to obtain a reproduced line-sequential color difference signal and a reproduced luminance signal. The compensation circuit comprises a detecting circuit for producing a dropout detection signal when the reproduced frequency modulated time-division-multiplexed signal assumes a level smaller than a preset level, a switching circuit controlled in response to an output signal of the detecting circuit, and a delay circuit for delaying an output signal of the switching circuit by a delay time of two horizontal scanning periods. The switching circuit selectively supplies to the demodulator and the delay circuit the reproduced frequency modulated time-division-multiplexed signal while the dropout detection signal is not produced from the detecting circuit, and the output signal of the delay circuit while the detecting circuit produces the dropout detection signal.

    • A generating circuit regenerates a color sub-carrier of a PAL color television system on the basis of a reproduced horizontal sync (synchronizing) pulse and a color burst signal. In order to avoid discontinuity of the regenerated sub-carrier due to signal drop-outs, the reproduced sync pulse is supplied to a counter type automatic frequency control (AFC) circuit which can supply a continuous horizontal frequency signal in spite of drop-outs of the reproduced horizontal sync pulse. When the reproduced burst signal is dropped out, the phase of the sub-carrier signal is changed from one phase to another, for example, from +135.degree. to -135.degree., in order to maintain the swinging conditions of the sub-carrier sequence of the PAL color television system.

    • A digital time base corrector reduces the capacity of a memory to approximately a 1 H of image data while maintains the interleave relationship between a luminance signal and a chrominance signal of a video signal. Polarity data indicating the polarity of a burst signal is generated every 1 H, and a latch circuit is provided for holding and outputting the polarity data during a period of reading image data and polarity data from an image data memory and a sub-carrier phase memory, corresponding to the 1 H in which the polarity data was generated. When dropout occurs in a video signal, the image data and the polarity data are inhibited from being written into the image data memory and the sub-carrier phase memory. When discrepancy is detected between read polarity data and polarity data held in the latch circuit, the color phase of the read image data is inverted.
