    • A new prefix, an international mobile call prefix, is provided in a telecommunications network, such as PSTN, for routing the PSTN originating international call to a foreign mobile subscriber. When a local PSTN exchange receives the international mobile call prefix in the dialed telephone number, it will route the call to a predetermined destination in the same country. The predetermined destination is a network element having a capability of making international routing information interrogation to a home PLMN of a called foreign mobile subscriber. Upon receiving the routing information from the home PLMN the call will be routed to the current location of the called foreign mobile subscriber according to the routing information. As a result, unnecessary international legs in the call can be avoided when the called mobile subscriber is roaming abroad.

    • A switching system and a method for performing high-speed switching within a telecommunications system. One aspect of the present invention utilizes an internal host and a self learning routing algorithm to reduce the time required to identify an output channel for routing a communication. Thus, the overhead associated with querying an external database can be eliminated from the switching system allowing a switching system to reduce the call hold time, and thereby meet the call flow demands of the telecommunications system. Another aspect of the present invention is the use of a hashing algorithm in resolving routing decisions. The hashing algorithm operates on received DID numbers to identify an output channel for a received call. The hashing algorithm is able to accept any DID number as input. Therefore, this aspect of the present invention allows a switching system to quickly resolve routing decisions without requiring consecutive DID numbers. This aspect of the present invention also allows a switching system to perform true, ten digit portability of DID numbers. Another aspect of the present invention is buffering the data between various components of the telecommunications system to eliminate problems due to skew between the transmission clocks of the various components. This aspect of the present invention allows the transmission of the data to be delayed by at least one frame length and then uses the clock rate of the destination component to ensure that clock skew is eliminated.

    • A method and apparatus is described for providing extended subscriber features, e.g., equal access, to otherwise non-conforming central offices of a telephone switching system. According to the invention, a register module is interposed between the subscriber line and an input of the central office for intercepting digits from the subscriber line intended for the central office and for receiving subscriber information from the central office identifying the subscriber line. The register module includes a memory having a plurality of address locations and a control circuit for analyzing the intercepted digits to determine whether processing of the subscriber call requires an extended subscriber feature. If so, the intercepted digits are processed to generate a coded signal, the coded signal including the address location where the stored digits and the subscriber information resides in the memory. The coded signal is then used by the marker in the central office to select an appropriate outgoing trunk to complete the subscriber call. An associated trunk module interposed between the switch element of the central office and the outgoing trunks receives the coded signal and in response thereto polls the register module to request transmission of the digits and the subscriber information. Upon receipt of this data, the trunk module outputs a signal to the selected trunk.
