    • A method and system for registering wireless devices with a base unit that is configured to communicate wirelessly with multiple wireless devices. In one example, the wireless devices are cordless handsets of cordless telephone systems. When placed in a charging cradle, an unregistered handset displays a message indicating that the handset should be registered. A user provides local input to the base unit to activate a registration sequence. A three-way handshake is initiated at the base station, wherein a sequence of three wireless messages are passed between the base and unregistered handset. The handset displays a message indicating successful registration.

    • A party line telephone system capable of effecting selective calling from one station to another and particularly adapted for use in battery-powered two-wire telephone systems such as those used in underground mines where consideration of intrinsic safety, low power consumption and compatibility with existing equipment are paramount. The system of the invention is such that the receiver at each station in the network need not be connected to a battery-powered source for any prolonged period of time except when that station is being called by another station for a private conversation, thereby conserving battery power.

    • A telephone ringing signal detector is disclosed for detecting four-party fully selective superimposed ringing signals on a telephone line. Detecting these signals at the central office end of a subscriber loop carrier system permits encoding the ringing signals for transmission on the carrier system and subsequent decoding and utilization at a remote carrier terminal to control the regeneration of selective ringing signals.The ringing detector includes separate 20 Hz alternating current signal detectors for each conductor of the telephone pair and further includes separate polarity detector for each conductor. The polarity signals for the two conductors are gated by the outputs of the respective 20 Hz signals and combined in a single polarity indication applicable for either conductor. False signaling indications are thereby prevented in the presence of central office variations of amplitude, waveform and level of the dc signals, as well as variations in the phase of the ringing signals.

    • A local subscriber battery is connected through a battery charging circuit, a disconnect circuit, and a cable pair to a central office talking battery. The disconnect circuit includes a pair of transistor switches that are connected in series between associated lines of the cable pair and the charging circuit for selectively blocking line current to the latter at the start of a dial pulse; a first resistor-capacitor network for detecting initiation of a dial pulse; and a second resistor-capacitor network for controlling the operation of the switches. The second network is responsive to operation of the first network for holding the switches open to prevent charging current flowing on the cable pair for a prescribed time interval after detection of the leading edge of a dial pulse. This ensures that the contacts of the A-pulsing relay in the central office drop out in response to the dial pulse.

    • A register-sender common control communication switching system having a plurality of registers sharing common memory and logic circuits on a time division multiplex basis and having a plurality of register junctors individually associated with the registers for connection to calling lines to receive signals therefrom includes a party and coin detection arrangement for identifying the calling party of a two party line and for identifying a coin deposit at a paystation. The arrangement includes a switching device in each one of the register junctors for connecting a source of current for a predetermined time interval to one side of a calling line to charge the ringer capacitors and line capacitance connected thereto to the potential of the source prior to connecting a sensitive indicating device to such a side of the calling line to respond to a detection signal supplied thereover indicative of one party of a two party line, or alternatively of a coin deposit at a paystation, and a second switching device for connecting the indicating device to that same side of the line at the end of the time interval so that the capacitance cannot cause a momentary erroneous actuation of the indicating device due to a transient discharge thereof in the absence of the detection signal since the capacitance is fully charged before the indicating device is connected to the line.
