    • Chassis assemblies for children's ride-on vehicles, children's ride-on vehicles including said chassis assemblies, and methods for configuring a children's ride-on vehicle for operation are disclosed. The chassis assembly may include a chassis configured to at least partially define a passenger region sized for a child, a gearbox coupled to the chassis, and an electric motor coupled to the gearbox. The gearbox may be configured to be selectively moved with respect to the chassis, along a path of movement, from a storage configuration to an operating configuration. A greater portion of the gearbox may extend beneath a lower plane defined by the chassis when the gearbox is in the operating configuration than when the gearbox is in the storage configuration.

    • A solar-powered transmission device includes a casing, a cover, a drive unit, and a solar collecting panel. The casing is formed with a hole unit. The cover cooperates with the casing so as to confine a component receiving space, and has a transparent portion that permits entry of light into the component receiving space. The drive unit is mounted in the component receiving space, and includes a motor, a speed-reduction gear set coupled to and driven rotatably by the motor, and an output shaft unit coupled to and driven rotatably by the speed-reduction gear set. The output shaft unit extends through the hole unit in the casing. The solar collecting panel is disposed in the component receiving space and is coupled electrically to the motor.

    • A gear box assembly for automatically engaging and disengaging an output gear which is non-rotatably concentrically mounted on a driven axle shaft attached to plural wheels in a children's ride-on toy is described. The assembly includes an electric motor with a pinion driving plural driven gears, and a yoke which is pivotable between two positions and provides a mount for at least one of the plural driven gears. In one position, the yoke pivotally engages the output gear and drives the vehicle's wheels, and in another position, the yoke pivotally disengages the output gear thereby allowing the vehicle's wheels to freely rotate without driving or back-driving the motor or other gears. In the preferred embodiment, the yoke is counterbalanced for rotation about a defined axis. In alternative embodiments, the yoke includes a friction member for developing friction between one of the driven gears to rotate the yoke into engagement.

    • It is frequently observed that when a real locomotive starts up, the front set of drive wheels commences to turn before the rear set of drive wheels begins to turn. The present invention is a simple device that permits this effect to be simulated in a model locomotive. The electric motor of the model locomotive drives a worm which turns a first gear. A second gear is mounted on the same shaft as the first gear but is not otherwise connected to the first gear. From the side of the first gear that faces the second gear, a pin extends at a particular radius. Similarly, two pins extend at the particular radius from the side of the second gear that faces the first gear. When the motor starts, the first gear turns immediately, but rotation of the second gear is delayed until the pin on the first gear strikes one of the pins on the second gear. In this way a delayed rotary motion is imparted to the second gear.

    • A chassis and drive train for toy vehicles comprises a housing, front and rear axles mounted on the housing for rotation, a drive motor, and an output power transmission coupled between the motor and the first axle for driving the first axle. A coupling transmission connected between the first and second axles for transmitting the rotation of the first axle to the second axle includes a first transmission train driven by the first axle, an idler mounted on the housing and driven by the first transmission train, and a second transmission train driven by the idler and driving the second axle. The transmission trains of the coupling transmission include drive shafts that intersect at an angle of substantially less than 180 degrees. With this geometry, the bottom of the chassis housing can be located well above the base plane defined by the axles, inasmuch as the drive shafts that couple the axles are oblique to each other and the idler is located well above the base plane. An advantageous arrangement of the batteries is included. The motor output transmission is arranged to disengage automatically in response to a resisting torque greater than a predetermined value.
