    • A communication system includes functional modules, wherein at least one functional module includes a processing unit and at least one functional module includes a controllable device. The modules are powered by an alternating voltage at a frequency and are electrically associated by a power bus and a communication bus. The processing unit provides a communication signal to the communication bus for interaction between the functional modules through a plurality of sets of high frequency pulses arranged to repeat at a predetermined repetition frequency substantially greater than the frequency of the voltage, and each set of high frequency pulses forms an information pulse corresponding to at least one bit of a communication protocol. Filters are disposed between an electric energy power supply and the functional modules for permitting the passage only of frequency components of an electric signal greater than the voltage frequency of the electric energy power supply.

    • A VSAT terminal including an antenna, a microwave power amplifier, a microwave low noise amplifier, a transmitter coupled via the microwave power amplifier to the antenna, a receiver coupled via the microwave low noise amplifier to the antenna, a user VSAT interface, and a controller in communication with the user VSAT interface and in electrical connection with the microwave power amplifier and the microwave low noise amplifier for supplying power thereto, the controller being operative to provide a less-than-full electrical power supply to either of the amplifiers in the absence of a communication session and operative to provide a full electrical power supply to either of the amplifiers in the presence of a communication session. A smart stand by mode is employed in which the transmitter and receiver are turned off simultaneously to conserve power. The receiver turns on periodically to determine if it is to receive a call. After the VSAT turns on it will lock on the signal received from the hub and then wait for a special activation list message. The special activation list message is broadcast continuously and contains a list of all VSATs that are presently powered own but which should switch to active mode since they have an incoming call. After a VSAT receives the special activation list message, it checks whether its ID is in the list. If not, the VSAT returns to power down mode.

    • A near field communication (NFC) communicator includes a housing, an NFC controller and an antenna circuit located in the housing. The antenna circuit enable inductive coupling of a near field electromagnetic signal with another antenna circuit in near field range. The antenna circuit includes an antenna element to generate the electromagnetic signal. The communicator also includes a receiver circuit located in the housing for extracting data from modulation induced in the electromagnetic signal which is caused by the inductive coupling of the near field electromagnetic signal with another antenna circuit, a transmitter circuit to generate the near field, a load modulator to modulate the near field to the reader and an energy harvesting circuit to power the rest of the circuit from the external field. A ferrite sheet is located in the housing such that a gap is maintained between the antenna element and the ferrite sheet.

    • A system and a method are disclosed for delivering an alert from a computer system using distributed notification delivery. The method comprises using a computer system to receive an alert initiation request from an alert operator, where the alert initiation request includes metadata of an alert to be delivered. The method extracts the metadata from the alert initiation request and from its persistent storage place and persistently stores the extracted metadata in a first storage place on the computer system. The method further makes an alert initiation request with one or more communication systems based on the extracted metadata of the alert. The method securely delivers the alert initiation request and extracted metadata to one or more communication systems, which store the metadata transiently for the duration of delivering the alert, deliver the alert to multiple alert recipients tracks delivery progress and collect alert responses, reporting these back to the computer system.
