摘要： Methods and compositions are provided for controlling the level of toxic metabolites in plants before, during and/or after harvest and/or processing. The invention finds use for reducing the health risk associated with the consumption products such as tobacco, cereal grain feeds, processed grain products such as corn syrup, citrus fruits, underground vegetables, fruit vegetables, flower, leafy and stem vegetables, and cut flowers, and for improving laboratory animal testing procedures by controlling the level of mycotoxins associated with the materials that colonize toxin producing microorganisms. Compositions for controlling mycotoxin-producing fungi comprise cinnemaic aldehyde, conferyl aldehyde or derivatives thereof having formula (I) wherein R1 represents -CHO, R2 represents -OH or an organic substituent comprising 1-10 carbon atoms, R3 represents -OCH3 or an organic substituent comprising 1-10 carbon atoms and R4 represents -H or an organic substituent comprising 1-10 carbon atoms.

摘要： Repellent compositions which contain aromatic aldehydes such as cinnamic aldehyde, alpha -hexyl cinnamic aldehyde and/or coniferyl aldehyde are provided, together with methods for their use as repellents for pests including flies, cockroaches, aphids, silverleaf white flies, mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, lice, leafhoppers, thrips, two spotted spider mites, snails, slugs, biting midges, earwigs, and moths. Also provided are stabilized alpha -hexyl cinnamic aldehyde (HCA) compositions which reduce the evaporation rate of HCA compared with unformulated HCA, and/or induce HCA to evaporate at a constant rate over time.

摘要： Methods and compositions employing saponin in combination with a natural product, such as flavonoid aldehyde, are provided for controlling the colonization and/or growth of plant and animal pathogens, such as fungi, insects, arachnids and non-aquatic mollusks, on materials such as plants, plant parts and agricultural products before, during, after harvest and/or processing. The invention finds use in treating agricultural crops for pathogenic organisms which colonize the surfaces of plant parts and tissues and controlling the level of toxic metabolites present in consumable products derived from plant materials, as well as reducing the health risk associated with their consumption. A method of employing saponin to kill nematodes also is provided.
