摘要： A method for automatically adjusting the setting(s) of a printer having a control circuit in communication with a sensory system and a database. The database is located in a storage medium and the data in the database includes one or more defined parameter settings corresponding to one or more media types. The sensory system is used to obtain a media identifier from media loaded into the printer. The control circuit determines the type of media from the media identifier. The media type is then compared to the database entries and used to retrieve any defined parameter setting(s) corresponding to the media type identified by the media identifier. Instructions to adjust the printer setting(s) according to the defined parameter setting(s) are determined at the control circuit. The control circuit then sends the instructions to the appropriate systems of the printer to adjusted the printer setting(s) according to the defined parameter setting(s).

摘要： Containers (11, 12) for printing devices, be they ink reservoirs, ribbon cassettes or toner reservoirs, are fitted with an electronic storage device (14) in the form of a chip in which the information on the current level of the container and/or other status data relevant to printer operation, e.g. expiry date of printing medium, are stored. The level of the printing medium is detected via the central control system (16) of the printing device and transmitted to the chip (14). The chip on the container monitors consumption until the level of the printing medium (ink, ribbon, toner) has fallen to the point at which the container needs to be changed. It is impossible to reprogram the chip and thus to refill the container.

摘要： A tape cassette 30 includes a cassette case 31 that houses a tape. An arm indicator portion is provided on an arm front surface 35 of the cassette case 31. The arm indicator portion includes vertical information sections and an aperture formed in at least one of the vertical information sections, and indicates a tape type. A person can identify the tape type by visually checking whether an aperture is formed in each of the vertical information sections. The tape printer 1 includes detecting switches 210. A part of the detecting switches 210 that opposes a surface portion other than the aperture in the type indicator portion is pressed. The tape printer 1 can identify the same tape type as identified by the visual check based on detection results of the detecting switches 210.
