摘要： A recording unit is formed by successively adhering layers of ink donor film of differing colors to each other. A bottom layer is adhered to an image receiving sheet, along a top edge of the recording unit. The image receiving sheet is longer than the ink donor films. In order to print a color image, the bottom ink donor film is layered onto the image receiving sheet, while the rest of the ink donor films are flipped away from the image receiving sheet. The layered film and sheet are fed from a print starting position through a thermal transfer printer that feeds and prints the film and sheet in a forward direction to a print termination position, and then feeds the film and used sheet in a reverse direction to the print starting position. The used film is removed, the next film layered onto the image receiving sheet, and the process is repeated until all the ink donor films have been used.

摘要： A Thermally transferable ink sheet comprises a base film having a periodically repeating set of successive ink coated regions having a plurality of color inks thereon, and index mark regions whose index mark comprises a combination of a plurality of sensor marks indicating information regarding the ink sheet located at each border between adjacent ink coated regions. According to a preferred embodiment, each pair of adjacent ink coated regions juxtaposed across each border have extended portions extending toward each other into the index mark region in directions parallel to the direction of ink sheet feeding. Thus, it is possible to read the index mark and identify the ink colors of adjacent ink coated regions at the same time. According to another feature, two sets of index marks are provided contiguous to each other to allow the print apparatus to be controlled by the combination of the resultant readings obtained separately from both sets of index marks.

The ink ribbon is supplied from a supply reel and taken up on a take-up reel both supported on the cassette. A detector detects when the cassette is loaded on the cassette apparatus and in turn drives the take-up reel to draw a short length of the ink ribbon onto the take-up reel. The rotatable supply member is restrained by spring tension from rotating and from supplying the ribbon, providing a back tension on the ink ribbon and preventing slack.

摘要： A thermal printer has a dye donor supply spool with a body and first and second end portions extending from the body. First and second receptacles are positioned for matingly receiving the first and second end portions of the dye donor supply spool. The supply spool is correctly loaded only when the first and second end portions of the supply spool matingly engage the first and second receptacles, respectively. A mechanical stop prevents incorrect end for end loading of a supply spool that has an off center web wound thereon by engaging the web and preventing the end of the spool from engaging the receptacle.

摘要： A strip or roll of thermal transfer type recording sheet (1a) has a base film (1a) on one side of which a hot melt ink layer (1b) is formed for recording on paper or other surface by thermal transfer. An end mark or marks to be detected optionally for warning the user of the fact that the recording roll is being used up is/are formed adjacent one end of the strip by gravure printing with use of a light-reflective ink. The ink mark or marks produced by gravure printing are of such constant thickness, and with the bounding edges so sharply defined, that they permit positive detection by an optical sensor.For the production of the end marks by gravure printing, a web of base film with the hot melt ink layer formed on one side thereof, with a width several times greater than that of each strip of recording sheet to be manufactured, is fed through a printing unit of a gravure printing section. A set of end marks printed by the printing unit on the web in juxtaposition in its transverse direction are dried immediately, with the drying effect exerted only on the end marks. Then, while being still fed continuously, the web is slit at a slitting section into the required narrower strips of recording sheet each bearing one of the end marks. The separate strips of recording sheet are subsequently wound into rolls.

摘要： Apparatus for thermally printing images, such as color images, on a print medium. The medium is moved repeatedly from a reference position through a printing region, as by rotating the medium on a platen. Thermal print elements are disposed at the print region and are selectively energizable to cause images, such as color images, to be printed. A movable web of thermally transferable material has a run interposed between the print medium and the thermal elements at the print region. In one embodiment, the web is provided with successive frames of respectively different colors of thermally transferable material arranged in repeated sequence. Energizing signals are supplied to the thermal elements representative of the image to be printed; and an image is printed in a color corresponding to the color frame then disposed at the printing region. Successive passes of the print medium are made in order to print images of the remaining colors in the sequence of frames on the web.

摘要： Drive and control apparatus utlizing a pair of gear motors alternating as drive and drag means for the ribbon wherein the drive motor has full voltage applied thereto for driving the ribbon, and the drag motor has reduced voltage applied for maintaining tension on the ribbon. The direction of drive is caused to be reversed by switching bars over which the ribbon travels, the bars being poles of a switch connected to the printer circuitry.
