    • A mechanical pencil in which lead feed is done automatically upon release of writing of a slider (3) from the paper surface or the like and the slider can be locked in a retreated position when the pencil is not in us, and the mechanical pencil including a tip member (2) fitted in the front end of a shell removably, a sleeve (4) disposed slidably in the interior of said tip member, a lead feed mechanism (5) which is mounted in the interior of the sleeve and which permits a forward movement of a lead but inhibits a backward movement of the lead, an ejection bar (10) mounted on the front end side of the sleeve, with the lead extending through the ejection bar, a slider disposed slidably within the tip member and having a locking engaging portion (35) capable of engaging said tip member disengageably, the slider imparting a predetermined frictional force to the lead, and a resilient member (11) disposed between the slider and the ejection bar, the resilient member having an urging force stronger than a lead gripping force of the lead feed mechanism under a given state.

    • A refillable pencil with automatic lead propulsion, especially suited for thin leads, contains a lead guide (2) which is coaxially displaceable in a housing (7, 10), projects partially therefrom downwards and completely encloses the projecting lead part (1) as far as the tip (2c). In the interior of the housing, an elastomeric ring (3, 13) in frictional contact with the inner wall of the housing encloses the lead (1) above the lead guide, with slight adhesive friction. It transmits the writing pressure from the writing tip (2c) to a pincer (8) which, even with slight compression of the elastomeric piece (3, 13), closes around the lead (1), retains it and so permits writing. Each time that the writing pressure is relieved (end of word), the lead guide together with the pincer drops downwards, the pincer immediately opening because the pressure on its underside is abruptly discontinued since the flanges (13a, 13b) of the elastomeric ring, because of the latter's friction against the inner wall of the housing, cannot be released as rapidly as the lead guide (2) falls downwards.

    • A mechanical pencil with a lead feed, automatically produced by pressure during use of the pencil, comprises a tubular lead magazine closed at an outer end by a removable actuating button and being movably guided in a tubular housing, clamping elements in the housing actuatable by pressure on the actuating button and a lead guide tube projecting from a conical end of the housing and being movable against the pressure of a spring into the latter and carrying at the inner end thereof an entrainment element exerting friction on the lead passing therethrough, in which the clamping elements are movable by means of the actuating button against the force of a second weaker spring and guided by rolling elements along a conical guide face of a clamping cone, which in turn is axially movable between two end positions in the housing.

    • A writing instrument with automatic advancement and feed of successive leads has a housing having a tip part, a lead protecting pipe having an axis and movable in an axial direction, a lead container spaced from the lead protecting pipe in the axial direction, a gripping sleeve extending between the lead container and the lead protecting pipe, a lead clamping member having a plurality of clamping arms and movable between open and closed positions in the axial direction, wherein the clamping arms of said lead clamping member are arranged to abut against the gripping sleeve under a spring action and having a clamping opening with a receiving portion, and the lead clamping member has a shaft connected with said clamping arms with a region adjacent to the latter, and a tilting member provided in the region of the shaft of the clamping member and arranged so that during movement of the lead protecting pipe to the tip part of the housing the tilting member displaces on the shaft of the clamping member, and during movement of the lead protecting pipe in an opposite direction out of the tip part of the housing the tilting member becomes firmly connected with the shaft of the clamping member.
