CONSTITUTION: The drawer(150) for the cash register comprises a fixed partition plate(161) for defining a coin storage space(151a) and a paper money storage space(151b), a guide rail(153) disposed at equal distances, a detachable partition plate(165) inserted between one guide rail(153a) and the other guide rail(153b), a rotatable plate(170) coupled to the rear surface of the drawer, and a rotatable support device(180) coupled to the rotatable plate for pushing the paper money stored in the drawer. The rotatable plate covers the rear end side of the detachable partition plate. The detachable partition plate is easily separated from the drawer without separating the rotatable plate from the drawer. Therefore, the width of the inner space of the drawer is easily adjusted by rotating the plate.

An intelligent cash drawer unit or cash register is operable to process signals from load cells beneath note/coin cups when the drawer is open. It then determines the weight/value of cash in the cups, in order to either (a) detect an accurate weight in a cup comprising a poorly placed note, or (b) allow a float to be added, or a lift to be made, stepwise, whilst the drawer remains open. An intelligent cash drawer unit or cash register is also described which can detect a poorly placed note, by either (a) comparing signals from the load cells when the drawer is open, and when the drawer is closed or (b) monitoring stable readings, over a predetermined period when the drawer is closed and comparing the monitored values and where the apparent weight determined by the transducer appears to reduce by more than a predetermined amount, determining that a note is poorly placed.

A cash drawer device includes a command receiving and outputting circuit for receiving a plurality of open commands and outputs the open commands, and a simultaneous open inhibiting circuit for inhibiting the command receiving and outputting circuit from simultaneously outputting more than one of the open commands when more than one of the open commands are simultaneously received by the command receiving and outputting circuit. A first simultaneous open inhibiting circuits includes an exclusive OR gate. A second simultaneous open inhibiting circuit includes first and second D flip-flops. The cash drawer device may further include a concurrent open inhibiting circuit having a timer responsive to one of the open commands for inhibiting the command receiving and outputting circuit from outputting another of the open commands for a predetermined interval. Thus, power consumption of driving a plurality of drawers can be suppressed. The invention also includes a method of controlling cash drawers.
