1440566 Railway vehicle undercarriages GLOUCESTER RAILWAY CARRIAGE & WAGON CO Ltd 3 Oct 1973 [4 Oct 1972] 45653/72 Heading B7L A bogie comprises side frames 1 having front and rear abutments thereon, a transverse member 4 extending between the side frames 1 and having front and rear abutments at each end portion thereof arranged in respective opposed relation to the front and rear abutments on the side frames 1 so that each two opposed abutments co-operate to form a spaced pair of abutments between which is disposed a block 6 of alternate laminations or rubber and steel plates, each block 6 being inclined downwardly from its abutment on the member 4 to its abutment on the side frame, wherein each side frame is formed wholly within that portion thereof forwardly of the front abutment and wholly in that portion thereof rearwardly of the rear abutment with a triangular opening 12 in register with brake applying means 9, 10. Each opening 12 has radiused corners and the side adjacent the block 6 is generally parallel to the steel plates.

1,252,936. Rail vehicle bogies. WEGMANN & CO. 7 Nov., 1968 [8 Nov., 1967; 1 June, 1968], No. 52864/68. Heading B7L. A torsionally weak rail vehicle bogie comprises transverse and longitudinal members 1, 2 defining an H-frame and which are torsionally weak by being either of channel section or longitudinally gapped box section, the members 1 being welded to members 2 by their webs only to allow for flexing, and the ends of the longitudinal members being rendered torsionally rigid, for example by having box sections 11 mounted thereon. The lower flanges of sections 11, the upper flanges of the longitudinal members and flat diagonal stays 17 may all be co-planar. The lower flanges of the members 1 and 2 may be formed with constrictions 18, 19 at their junctions or the lower flanges of the transverse members arched upwardly at 20 to provide flexibility. A transom 5 welded between the members 1 at their centres of thrust carries a king-pin 4.

1,236,315. Bogies. GENERAL STEEL INDUSTRIES Inc. 21 May, 1969 [24 Oct., 1968], No. 25934/69. Heading B7L. An H-shaped bogie frame has side members 13 supported by pairs of coil springs 27 on longitudinally extending wings 7 of axle boxes 5 and having depending inverted frusto-conical members 9 which engage in elastomeric annuli 17 in openings in the wings 7. Each side member 13 is transversely widened intermediate the axle 2, 3 of the bogie to support the base member 31 of an air spring having a diaphragm 33, a reservoir 37 in the side member, and a rigid top member 35 which supports a bolster 40. The coil springs 27 may be replaced by a single coil spring (55, Fig. 4, not shown) which seats on the axle box 5 directly above the axle and projects into an opening (52) in the undersurface of the side member 13, and the frusto-conical elements 9 may abut the side members 12, 13 either at the same vertical level or at different vertical levels (Fig. 5, not shown).
