PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricant composition for a refrigerating machine that has excellent thermal stability and chemical stability even when including a fluorescent agent for refrigerant leakage detection.SOLUTION: A lubricant composition for a refrigerating machine comprises combining an additive into a base oil, wherein the additive is a coumarin compound. In an open type automotive air conditioning, an electric automotive air conditioning, a gas heat pump, an air conditioning, a refrigerator, a vending machine, a showcase, a hot water supply system, and a freezer such as a refrigeration and heating system that use the lubricant composition for a refrigerating machine, leakage detection of a refrigerant can be performed stably for a long period of time. Therefore, when an unsaturated fluorocarbon refrigerant with low stability is used for these various equipment, the lubricant composition for a refrigerating machine is extremely effective.

Lubricating oils are described which are useful in two-cycle engines. These oils contain a minor amount of at least one phenolic compound of the general formula (R)a-Ar-(OH)b wherein R is a substantially saturated, hydrocarbon-based group of an average of at least 10 aliphatic carbon atoms; a and b are each independently an integer of one up to three times the number of aromatic nuclei present in Ar with the proviso that the sum of a and b does not exceed the unsatisfied valences of Ar; and Ar is a single ring, a fused ring or a linked polynuclear moiety having 0 to 3 optional substituents consisting of lower alkyl, lower alkoxyl, methylol or lower hydrocarbon-based substituted methylol, halo and combinations of two or more of said optional substituents.

The base oil is the ester of pentaerythritol, a polypentaerythritol or trimethylolpropane and an organic monocarboxylic acid having from 2 to 18 carbon atoms in the molecule. The first additive is a thiocyanate of Formula I where R is a hydrocarbyl or amine-substituted hydrocarbyl group having from 1 to 30 carbon atoms or a radical of Formula II where R1111 is a bridging polymethylene radical having from 2 to 4 carbon atoms, and R1, R11 and R111 are hydrogen or hydrocarbyl having from 1 to 30 carbon atoms. The second additive is of Formula III where one, two or all of X, Y and Z is hydroxyl and the other or others, if any, are hydrogen. The third additive is a triazole of Formula IV where R is hydrogen or alkyl having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms. Other additives may also be present; those referred to are arylamines of Formulµ V and VI where R is an alkyl or alkaryl radical having from 4 to 12 carbon atoms and trihydrocarbyl orthophosphates in which the hydrocarbyl radical has from 2 to 12 carbon atoms. The Specification includes lists of suitable components. Polyhydroxyanthraquinones not of Formula III are not suitable. The base oil used in the examples is made from a technical grade pentaerythritol containing a minor amount of dipentaerythritol and a mixture comprising valeric, 2-methyl-pentanoic, n-octanoic and pelargonic acids.
