PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a method for sterilizing a drink, especially a beer, which does not exceed a PU limit (in principle within a range from 10 PU to 30 PU) whose effectiveness has been proved in real treatments and by which the possibly highest product temperature is obtained during the thermal treatment. SOLUTION: This method for thermally sterilizing the drink, especially the beer, comprising heating a volume of the flow of the product at a higher temperature than a sterilization temperature before the product is bottled and then recooling the heated product, characterized by starting the cooling step (34) for lowering the temperature of the product just after the heating step (30) continued until reaching the pre-calculated highest temperature (33). In the method, there is not a heating-retaining time for constantly retaining the temperature. The high product temperature can be achieved without exceeding the limit specified for the applied sterilization unit.
