    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber capable of improving ride quality in a vehicle by reducing shock and hammering sound in full expansion.SOLUTION: A shock absorber D includes: a cylinder 1; a piston 2 which is swingably inserted into the cylinder 1 and partitions the inside of the cylinder 1 into an expansion side chamber R1 and a pressure side chamber R2; a piston rod 3 which is connected to the piston 2; damping passages 4, 5 through which the extension side chamber R1 and the pressure side chamber R2 communicate with each other; a bypass passage B which is set to the piston rod 3, goes by a round about the damping passages 4, 5 and makes the extension side chamber R1 and the pressure side chamber R2 communicate with each other; and a relief valve 6 which is mounted on the bypass passage B and receives the pressure of the extension side chamber R1 to open the valve. The shock absorber includes flow passage area limitation means C1 reducing a flow passage area of the bypass passage B when the piston rod 3 displaces the extension side chamber R1 in a pressure direction by a predetermined amount, relative to the cylinder 2.
