摘要： The present invention provides a process for producing a porous quartz glass base, which comprises hydrolyzing a silicon compound in an oxyhydrogen flame in a reaction furnace to generate and deposit fine silica particles on a starting member, thereby forming a porous quartz glass base, wherein a gas discharge pipe for discharging an unnecessary gas from the reaction furnace is heated. According to the present invention, fine silica particles can be prevented from adhering to a gas discharge pipe for discharging the unnecessary hydrogen chloride gas generated in producing a porous quartz glass base.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent silica fine particles from adhering onto an exhaust pipe for exhausting unwanted hydrogen chloride gas generating in production of porous quartz glass preforms. SOLUTION: When the porous quartz glass preform is formed by depositing and piling up silica fine particles generated by hydrolysis of a silicon compound in oxyhydrogen flame in a reaction furnace 1 onto a starting member 12, a heating means 4 is provided for heating the exhaust pipe 3 for exhausting hydrogen chloride gas generated in the reaction furnace 1 to outside. This heating means 4 heats the exhaust pipe 3 so that the temperature in the exhaust pipe 3 falls within a predetermined range from a temperature roughly same as that of hydrogen chloride gas flowing in the exhaust pipe 3 to a specified temperature higher than the temperature.
