摘要： An electromagnetic switch includes a contact holding member connected to a plunger in order to hold a first movable contact. The contact holding member is disposed outside a switch case covering a periphery of an excitation coil. A return spring pushes the plunger back in the opposite direction to a fixed iron core through the contact holding member when electric power supply to the excitation coil is stopped. The return spring is disposed outside the switch case. In this structure, a spring holding portion does not need to be disposed in the fixed iron core and the plunger. Therefore, an area where the fixed iron core attracts the plunger can be increased, so that an attraction force can be increased.

摘要： In order to absorb the impact force produced when a pinion meshes a ring gear, a magnet switch is disposed apart from a pinion. The distance between a plunger of the magnet switch and a pinion rotation regulating member is lengthened so that a link mechanism having an elastic member such as a cord-shaped member or a spring is lengthened. As a result, the impact force produced when the pinion meshes the ring gear can be prevented from being directly transmitted to the plunger. Consequently, there is no vibration of the plunger and a movable contact can be reliably prevented from moving away from a fixed contact.

The water barrier wall comes into contact with the flange portion when the starter is in operation. The pinion gear is adapted to engage with a ring gear of an engine, which the starter starts. The pinion gear contacts the drive shaft through a sliding portion. The structure of the starter prevents water, dust, dirt and other contaminants from leaking into the housing via a window in the housing. Thus, the function and operability of the starter is improved.

The shaft is forcibly inserted into a center hole of the armature core formed by laminating core sheets. Each core sheet has a center hole and outer holes connected to the center hole. A contour of the center hole is not continuous because the outer holes are connected thereto. The shaft can be firmly connected to the laminated core sheets with a relatively low inserting force. The shaft has a smooth outer surface having no knurls or the like. In addition, the outer holes of the laminated core sheets form cooling air passages in the armature core in its axial direction.

A concave portion is formed on the bottom side of a plunger to store a spherical body set on the rear end of a cord-shaped member, e.g., wire. A male screw and a fixing are used so that the length of the cord-shaped member is adjusted thereby. The length of the string-shaped member is adjusted so that the claw of the pinion rotation regulating member fits into the notch on the outer circumference of a pinion gear. Furthermore, the claw is fit into the notch via the wire when the plunger moves. The cord-shaped member may be replaced by a rod member disposed radially inside or outside the yoke.

After the pinion engages a ring gear, the regulating claw positioned rearward the pinion regulates the return of the pinion from the ring gear. A thrust bearing including a rolling bearing positioned on the rear face of the pinion absorbs the difference between the rotational speed of the pinion and that of the regulating claw. Such a construction allows only the pinion to move axially and a magnet switch to be made compact and light.

摘要： A starter having a speed reduction mechanism that can reduce the mechanical and thermal loads that harm a starter motor. By setting the upper and lower coil ends and of upper and lower armature coils approximately parallel to the end side of the armature core, and by connecting the upper coil end and lower coil end, the upper and lower coil ends can be stored in an axially projecting small space adjacent the armature core. As a result, the anti-centrifugal force of the armature can be increased, and the mechanical load applied to the starter motor can be drastically reduced. As the upper and lower coil ends are near the armature core, the heat generated by the upper and lower coil ends is easily dissipated to the armature core, and the thermal load applied to the starter motor can be reduced.

The material sheet has teeth extending from a first side of a middle portion of the material sheet and projections projecting from a second side of the middle portion in a direction opposite to the teeth. Each projection and each recess has substantially the same dimension with respect to a centerline between a first line passing through tops of the projections and a second line passing through bottoms of the recesses. The material sheet is helically wound so that the projections are located on an inner diameter side of a rotor core.
