摘要： A Coriolis rate sensor for determining both angular rate and linear acceleration with respect to three orthogonal axes. A first embodiment of the rate sensor (10) includes three pairs of accelerometers (26, 28 and 30) mounted on counter-rotating frame members (20, 22). The accelerometers are mounted with their sensitive axes antiparallel with each other, forming an acute angle with the common axis (40) about which the upper and lower frame members are counter-rotated back and forth in a dither motion. The upper and lower frame members are connected to a baseplate (12) by flex links (32), which are aligned radially about the axis. The flex links provide a relatively rigid support (in compression) between the frame members and the centrally disposed baseplate, yet readily permit counter-rotation of the two frame members. A link (56) prevents all but relative rotational movement between the frame members and baseplate. A pair of electromagnetic coils (42) and pole pieces (50) provide a sinusoidal driving force to counter-rotate the upper and lower frame members relative to each other to ensure that the upper and lower frame members are directly coupled to each other and to the baseplate. In a second embodiment of the rate sensor (100), eight accelerometers (102, 104, 106 and 108) are mounted with two pairs on an upper counter-rotating member and two pairs on a lower counter-rotating member.

The accelerometer measures acceleration along a sensitive axis (SA) and comprises a housing (32), a proof mass (30), support means (34) and a coupling assembly (36, 38, 40). The coupling assembly is connected to the proof mass and housing, and comprises a beam (36) and first and second force sensing elements (38, 40). The beam is mounted for pivotal movement about a compensation axis (CA) normal to the sensitive axis (SA). The first and second force sensing elements are connected to the pivot member at spaced-apart connection points on opposite sides of the compensation axis from one another, such that an acceleration along the sensitive axis results in respective compression and tension forces on the force sensing elements, and such that differential thermal expansion results in rotation of the beam about the compensation axis.

摘要： A transducer assembly (10) includes first and second stators (14, 16) which are axially aligned with, and bear upon opposite sides of a proof mass (12). The stators (14, 16) and proof mass (12) are clamped together by means of a sleeve (100) having a side portion (102) with upper and lower flanges (104, 106) projecting therefrom. An inner sleeve element (110), formed from a material having a different coefficient of thermal expansion than the side portion (102), is disposed between the flanges (104, 106). The temperature of the sleeve (100) is controlled such that the inner sleeve element (110) produces a tensile stress on said flanges (104, 106), increasing the spacing therebetween. The flanges (104, 106) are then joined to the stators (14, 16). Thereafter, the temperature of the sleeve (100) is controlled such that the tensile stress produced by the inner sleeve element (110) on the flanges is reduced producing a compression force tending to reduce the flanging spacing. This compression force is transmitted to the stators (14, 16) and proof mass (12) as a controlled compressive axial preload.
