    • PURPOSE:To convert a chloride-contng. waste matter into a harmless state, by extracting CdC 2 and ZnCl2 from the waste matter with ethanol or methanol. CONSTITUTION:A discharged chloride-contng. waste matter in incineration of sludge or the like discharged from a disposal process of municipal garbage or waste water, contains harmful CdCl2 and ZnCl2. The waste matter 4 is fed into an extracting vessel 1, where ethanol or methanol 5 is added to the waste matter. The mixture is heated at a temperature near the boiling point of the solvent and agitated, to extract CdCl2 and ZnCl2 from the waste matter 4. After extraction, the waste matter-contng. alcoholic suspension 6 is filtered by a filter 2. The filtration leftovers 7 are discharged away, because they are harmless without containing CdCl2 or ZnCl2. CdCl2 and ZnCl2-dissolved alcoholic filtrate 8 is treated by an alcohol-recovering device 3 to recover alcohol, the recovered alcohol 10 is reused, and distillation leftovers 9 are recovered as a Cd and Zn source.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply and surely preventing the elution of heavy metals, especially lead, from melter fly ash and/or calciner fly ash by keeping a pH value within the optimal range without any special pH control. SOLUTION: There are provided a method for preventing the elution of heavy metals from melter fly ash and/or calciner fly ash which comprises adding 1-100 wt.%, based on the fly ashes, cement to melter fly ash and/or calciner fly ash under agitation, adding at least 0.1 wt.% (in terms of the Fe of the fly ashes, iron salt to the mixture, adding water to the mixture, kneading the resultant mixture to bring it into a moistened state, and optionally granulating the moistened mixture or comprises, in treating a waste gas containing melter fly ash and/or calciner fly ash by passing the waste gas containing the fly ashes through the primary bag filter to collect the ashes, spraying slaked lime over the waste gas devoid of the ashes, and passing the effluent gas to the secondary bag filter, adding 1-100 wt.%, based on the fly ashes, cement and the ashes collected by the secondary bag filter to the fly ashes collected in the primary bag filter under agitation, adding at least 0.1 wt.%, in terms of the Fe of the fly ashes, iron salt to the mixture, and adding water to the mixture to bring it into a moistened state, and optionally granulating the moistened mixture.
