The count values of the counter means 12 in accordance with two times of scan stored in the bar number storage means 13 are compared by a first comparison means 14, and when the count value in succeeding scan out of two times of scan is less than the one in preceding scan, a permission signal is derived to a line 15. A recognition means 16 reads out a scan signal in accordance with the preceding scan out of the scan signals in two times of scan stored in a scan signal storage means 11, and performs the recognition processing of the bar code. In such a way, it is possible to improve working efficiency in data input work by bar code reading.

    • PURPOSE:To satisfactorily read the symbols after the regular reflected light is made incident on a detecting element by resetting the peak holding level of a peak holding circuit when the peak holding level exceeds the prescribed reference value. CONSTITUTION:The output signal of a variable gain amplifier 10 is applied to a peak holding circuit 20, and the output signal of the circuit 20 is inputted to the circuit 10 as a control signal which controls the gain of the circuit 10. A reset circuit 30 is connected to the circuit 20 to reset the peak holding level of the circuit 20. Thus it is possible to evade such a case where the gain of the amplifier 10 is kept extremely reduced even if the output signals of a detecting element are temporarily increased due to the light reflected regularly from the symbol surface. As a result, a normal reading state is quickly reset even though the light reflected regularly from the symbol surface is received by the detecting element.

    • PURPOSE:To accurately read a bar code irrespective of the length of the bar code by providing at least two kinds of reflecting planes with different central angles so as to change the scanning angle of a laser beam at a polygonal mirror. CONSTITUTION:At least two kinds of reflecting planes with different central angles are provided at the polygonal mirror 4 of a bar code reader so as to change the scanning angle of the laser beam. In other words, the reflecting plane 4a with a narrow central angle (gamma) and the reflecting plane 4b with a wide central angle (delta) are arranged alternately. Therefore, the scan of the laser beam is performed with a large scanning angle (beta) first, and next, it is performed with a small scanning angle (alpha), and reading is performed by capturing only the bar code targeted to be read in a scanning area. In such a way, the bar code can be accurately read irrespective of the length of the bar code.
