摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a route search system, a route search apparatus, a route search method, and a computer program, which enable a user to search a route more suitable for the user.SOLUTION: A route search method includes: specifying an area including a link for each of plural links constituting a route from a start point to a destination; acquiring an area cost calculation condition that correlates an element influencing a search cost for each area with a calculation condition of a search cost for a link including the element and predicting a clock-time of a vehicle arriving at the link; obtaining a traffic condition of the link at the arrival clock-time as an element influencing the search cost; and specifying a suitable route from the start point to the destination for each search condition by using the search cost calculated on the basis of the specified area, the area cost calculation condition correlated with the area and the element such as the traffic condition.

SOLUTION: A navigation apparatus for searching for a route from a departure place up to a destination includes: an information storage means (3) for storing map data of hierarchical structure; a route search means (4a) for reading the map data of hierarchical structure from the information storage means, searching for routes inside predetermined areas on the departure place side and on the destination side respectively, and obtaining a shortest cost route in the overlapping area of these search areas; and a control means (4b) for controlling the search by the route search means. The control means updates the cost of the shortest cost route, when the cost of a shortest cost route, obtained by searching up to a higher level of the hierarchy, is lower than the cost of the shortest cost route obtained.
