    • The present invention generally relates to a device for securing a tire to a vehicle so as to reduce the accidental or unauthorized removal of the tire from the vehicle. The device is particularly suitable for preventing the theft of a spare tire from a vehicle. More specifically, the device prevents an unauthorized user from gaining access to an opening in the vehicle which is used to lower and remove the spare. As a result, the device may save an individual hundreds of dollars and the annoyance of not having a spare tire when needed. The device is easily installed in many vehicles in around one minute.

    • A system for providing a wireless device with access to a computer network includes an access point that sets up a radio link with the wireless device and couples the wireless device to the network. The system also includes a server that receives data packets from the access point through the computer network. The data packets include at least one data packet that has a first identifier that uniquely identifies the wireless device and a second identifier that corresponds to at least one of a manufacturer code or a vendor code of the wireless device. The system further includes a database that is coupled to the server and stores data for associating a service plan with the first and second identifiers and basing the service plan, at least in part, on the second identifier. Other features and systems are also disclosed.

    • A system and method for transferring data between a read/write transducer and a data storage medium involves encoding a first set of data blocks of a data field according to a first coding constraint for storage on the data storage medium. The data blocks have a predetermined block size. The data field includes a last data block that stores fewer data bytes than that accommodated by the predetermined block size. The last data block is encoded according to a second coding constraint for storage on the data storage medium, such that no pad bytes are required to complete encoding of the last data block. The first set of data blocks transferred from the data storage medium are decoded according to the first coding constraint, and the last data block transferred from the data storage medium is decoded according to the second coding constraint.

    • A waste containment apparatus fits within, the same physical envelope as a typical 6 cubic yard bin. The apparatus has lifting fittings to permit conventional lifting and dumping by a garbage truck. The bin has, internally, a compactor including a motor and a compaction head driven by the motor. The working mechanical assemblies and the electrical control unit are mounted well above the inlet chute. The lifting height of the inlet chute is significantly lower than the top opening level of the bin. The unit has an internal refuse flow accumulation path, and internal members such as deflector plates. The unit may have a liquid drain and collection sump. The sump may have a sump heater. The unit has at least one weighing skid that responds to a weight condition in the event that the bin is loaded to an extent that may make it difficult for a lift truck to raise and tip.

    • The present disclosure enables remote device management. A programmatic interface is associated with each application plug-in A web server included with the on-device agent provides access to the programmatic interfaces according to open standards such as HTML or XML. The present disclosure enables access to remote devices through existing infrastructure without the need for proprietary systems. An IT administrator or other administrator may remotely access and update software and hardware, track device data plan usage statistics, provide live support, and track current and historical device locations. Through the support features of the present disclosure an IT administrator or other support operator may remotely operate a device as if they were actually holding the device. This feature provides direct access to device files and software while also showing the IT administrator screen views of the remote device. Thus, the IT administrator actually sees what the remote user also sees.
