    • A motor operator for local or remote shifting of switchgear contacts toward either open or closed positions includes a reversible motor and rotatable drive screw mounted on common support structure for simultaneous pivoting movement as a drive nut translates fore-and-aft along the length of the screw. The drive nut includes an outer body and an inner sleeve which is set into free-wheeling motion whenever the sleeve comes into contact with either of two stops mounted on the screw defining respective end limits of travel for the nut. A drive element normally coupling the nut to an operating shaft of the switchgear is removable to allow the shaft to be manually rotated with a wrench when desired, and removal of the drive element reduces the likelihood that the worker is injured upon unintentional activation of the motor while the operating shaft is turned by hand.

    • A mount is secured to an end of a cylindrical housing with a front side facing outward thereof. A knob is provided having a stem extending from one end and a gear secured to and extending radially outward from the end of the knob. An aperture is formed through the mount for receiving the stem of the knob with the knob located on the front side of the mount near one edge thereof. A generally cylindrical shaped face member has an inner side secured to the front side of the mount and an outer side facing outward thereof. The face member has an opening formed therethrough for receiving the knob and its gear such that the knob may be viewed from the opening from the outer side of the face member. The opening of the face member extends to one edge thereof such that a portion of the gear is accessable from the edge. An annular member is located around the face member and is supported by the face member for rotation in opposite directions relative to the face member. The annular member has gear teeth in mesh with the teeth of the gear of the knob for causing the knob gear and hence the knob to rotate when the annular member is rotated relative to the face member.A stop and a slot are provided on the annular member and face member respectively or vice versa for limiting rotation of the annular member in opposite directions relative to the face member.

    • Switching apparatus for an electric iron control circuit includes a control switch assembly having a commutator switch and an on/off switch, including a pair of conductive members mounted on an insulating base. Each of the conductive members includes a plurality of conductive fingers interleaved so as to maintain electrical isolation between the conductive members. A rotary contact geared to the temperature control of an iron includes a contact member which alternately bridges and isolates the conductive fingers such that movement of the temperature select knob creates an interrupting signal between terminals connected to the conductive members. When the movable contact is in a predetermined position, a leaf contact is separated from a fixed contact so as to establish an on/off switch control. The base is pivotally mounted to the housing of the iron. A start switch includes a switch case having a pair of conductive resilient leaves normally electrically isolated and a switch button movably mounted in a switch case such that the movement of the switch button is operative to momentarily contact the two leaves to provide a start signal. The start switch is captured between the housing of the iron and a handle cover.

    • A disconnect switch and drive mechanism therefor particularly adapted for use in gas insulated substations. The disconnect switch comprises a sealed tank having opposing ends through which electrical conductors enter the tank, and within the tank is disposed an electrically insulating gas. Also disposed within the tank are a pair of longitudinally spaced apart electrodes, and the electrical conductors are coupled to, and terminate at, the electrodes. A reciprocating switch blade is disposed within one of the conductors and is capable of being in two positions; one position in contact with both electrodes to permit the flow of electric current therebetween; and a second position spaced apart from one electrode to prohibit the flow of electric current. A drive mechanism is utilized for positioning the switch blade. The drive mechanism comprises a pair of parallel support members having a plurality of gear teeth at one arcuate end section thereof, first and second crank members pivotally coupled to the support members and having aligned openings therein, and a connecting rod extending through the aligned openings and rotatable with respect thereto. A crank gear is rotatably coupled to the first crank element and cooperates with the gear teeth of the support member, and a rod gear is fixedly secured to the connecting rod and cooperates with the crank gear, so that upon pivotal movement of the crank elements, the support member gear teeth cause the crank gear to rotate which causes a rotation of the rod gear and the connecting rod attached thereto. A drive arm fixedly secured to the connecting rod rotates with the connecting rod. The connecting rod experiences both an arcuate and a rotational movement upon pivotal movement of the crank elements, and results in a straight line movement of the distal end of the drive arm.
