    • According to one aspect of the invention, there is provided a medium feeding device capable of feeding a recording medium placed on a first tray. The medium conveying device includes: a frame having a first surface and allowing the first tray to be movable along the first surface, the first tray being attached to the medium feeding device at a first position of the first surface; a feeding member configured to feed the recording medium to a first conveying path when the first tray with the recording medium thereon is positioned at the first position, a cleaning member disposed at the first surface of the frame and configured to clean the feeding member when the cleaning member is uncovered by the first tray.

    • A printer has a carriage being movable between a first end and a second end of a reciprocating path; and a driving force transmitting path selecting mechanism provided at the second end of the reciprocating path. The selecting mechanism has: a common driving force outputting member; a plurality of force receiving members; a selecting member; and a position retainer for keeping the position of the selecting member. The selecting member connects the force outputting member to one of the plurality of force receiving members, and moves in association with the carriage when the carriage moves in a vicinity of the second end in a first direction extending from the first end to the second end. The position retainer keeps the position of the selecting member when the carriage moves in a second direction extending from the second end to the first end. The force receiving member connected to the force outputting member via the selecting member is selected in accordance with a movement of the carriage along the reciprocating path.

    • A printer having a fewer number of components and a simple structure, and capable of double-side printing is provided. A multi-function device 1 comprises a printing unit 10, a cassette 5, a supply unit 6, a sheet support plate 11, a cover plate 46, and a pair of feed-out rollers 21a, 21b. The cassette 5 is located blow the printing unit 10 and contains stacked sheets. The supply unit 6 discharges a sheet from the cassette 5 to the printing unit 10. The sheet transported into the printing unit 10 is placed on the sheet support plate 11 in the printing unit 10 during printing. An opening 50 is formed on the sheet support plate 11. The cover plate 46 is movable between a covering position that covers the opening 50 and an uncovering position that uncovers the opening 50. The pair of feed-out rollers 21a, 21b nips a sheet at the exit of the printing unit 10, rotates in a forward direction, and thereby pulls out the nipped sheet from the printing unit 10. The cover plate 46 is located at the uncovering position when the pair of feed-out rollers 21a, 21b rotates in a reverse direction in order to return the nipped and pulled sheet to the cassette 5 through the opening 50 of the sheet support plate 11. The multi-function device 1 returns the one side printed sheet to the cassette 5 again through the opening 50 formed on the sheet support plate 11. The one side printed sheet returned to the cassette 5 is fed to the printing unit 10 again by the supply unit 6. The multi-function device 1 can return the one side printed sheet to the cassette 5 simply by conveying it for a very short distance. The multi-function device 1 could enable double-side printing with a fewer components than a conventional mechanism for double-side printing.

    • In an image-recording device, a feeding roller feeds recording media one at a time from a media-accommodating unit along a conveying path. A pair of registration rollers is disposed on the conveying path and conveys the recording medium fed by the feeding roller to an image-recording region. The registration rollers include a drive roller. A carriage reciprocates in the image-recoding region in a direction intersecting a conveying direction in which the recording medium is conveyed. A recording head is mounted on the carriage. A drive transmission switching unit is disposed outside the image-recording region on one end with respect to the reciprocating direction of the carriage and switches a combination of rotating and halted states of the drive roller in the registration rollers and the feeding roller between a continuous feeding mode and an intermittent feeding mode. A controlling unit activates the drive transmission switching unit by moving the carriage to selectively switch between the continuous feeding mode and the intermittent feeding mode.
