    • An ink-jet printer is provided and includes: a motor, generating a driving force that prompts an ink-jet head moving in a main scanning direction relative to a print object; a motor, generating a driving force by which the ink-jet head is moved; a motor pulley, being rotated by the driving force generated by the motor; a first belt wound around the motor pulley to transmit the driving force from the motor pulley toward the ink-jet head; and a decelerating pulley on which the first belt is wound around to be rotated by the driving force transmitted on the first belt. At least one of a group of motor-side teeth of the motor pulley and belt-side teeth of the first belt and a group of deceleration-side teeth of the decelerating pulley and the belt-side teeth of the first belt is a combination of intermeshable spur gear teeth and helical gear teeth.

    • An inkjet printer has a printing head, a sheet conveying mechanism, a carriage mounting a printing head and configured to be reciprocally movable in a printing area and non-printing area. A cap is provided to be movable between a capping position an uncap position. A controller of the inkjet printer is configured to execute a printing process, a standby process, and a capping process in which the controller causes the carriage to move to the non-printing area and moves the cap from the uncap position to the capping position. The controller causes the carriage to move into the printing area when the next printing command is received after the standby process is finished and before the carriage moving process has been completed.

    • A recording device and control method execute a printhead retraction operation at an appropriate speed when a paper jam occurs, make removing jammed paper easy, and prevent problems from pieces of paper left inside the recording device. The printer 1 retracts the head carriage 59 to the home position HP or away position AP when a paper jam occurs. The retraction distance is calculated, and a retraction speed determined based on a speed control table 100. If the retraction speed is low, there is little chance of pulling on the jammed paper P and making removal of the jammed paper P difficult. If the retraction distance is long, changing retraction speed to a high speed during the retraction operation shortens time of the retraction operation. Therefore, there is little chance of the user tearing the jammed paper P, and little chance of problems caused by pieces of paper left inside.
