    • An apparatus for generating controlled radiation for curing a photosensitive resin is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a source of radiation and an elongate reflector for directing said radiation in at least one radiating direction. The reflector has two ends spaced apart in a longitudinal direction, and a cross-section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. The reflector further has an inner surface and an outer surface. The inner surface comprises a plurality of elongate reflective facets oriented parallel to the longitudinal direction. The reflective facets are adjustable in the cross-section for directing the curing radiation substantially parallel to at least one radiating direction. Optionally, a plurality of collimating elements disposed between the ends of the reflector may be utilized for controlling an angle of the curing radiation relative to the longitudinal direction. A radiation management device, preferably comprising a mini-reflector, juxtaposed with the source of radiation may also be utilized.

    • A differential density single lamina web of cellulosic fibers comprises at least two pluralities of micro-regions disposed in a non-random and repeating pattern: a first plurality of high density regions and a second plurality of low density regions. The high density regions comprise cellulosic fibers comprising fluid latent indigenous polymers (FLIP), such as hemicelluloses and lignin. The fibers of the high-density regions are FLIP-bonded, i.e., bonded together by a process of softening, flowing and immobilization of the FLIP between the cellulosic fibers of the high density regions. The process for making the web comprises the steps of providing a plurality of papermaking fibers comprising FLIP; providing a macroscopically monoplanar papermaking belt having a web-facing surface and deflection conduits; depositing the plurality of the cellulosic fibers on the papermaking belt to form a web; heating the web to a temperature sufficient to cause the FLIP contained in a first portion associated with the web-facing surface of the belt to soften; impressing the web-side surface of the belt into the web; immobilizing the flowable FLIP and creating FLIP-bonds between the fibers comprising the first portion of the web.

    • A process for making a paper sheet is disclosed. After a web is transferred from a forming wire to a papermaking belt preferably having deflection conduits, the web is overlaid with a flexible sheet of material such that the web is disposed intermediate the sheet of material and the papermaking belt. The sheet of material has an air permeability less than the papermaking belt, and is preferably air-impermeable. An application of a fluid pressure differential to the sheet of material causes deflection of at least a portion of the sheet of material towards the papermaking belt and, preferably, deflection of at least a portion of the web into the conduits of the papermaking belt and water removal from the web through the conduits of the papermaking belt.

    • A papermaking vacuum apparatus having a web-facing surface adapted to support a papermaking belt and comprising a head, a body and at least one vacuum slot disposed in the head and defining an aperture on the web-facing surface. The vacuum slot is in fluid communication with the web-facing surface and extends from the web-facing surface to the body which is in further fluid communication with a vacuum source. The web-facing surface comprises a leading surface and a trailing surface. The leading surface has a transitional area juxtaposed with the aperture created by the vacuum slot. This transitional area has a predetermined Z-directional spacing from the papermaking belt, which Z-spacing continuously and gradually increases in the machine direction whereby the amount of vacuum pressure applied through the vacuum slot to the paper web gradually increases as the paper web travels in the machine direction over the slot.
