    • A variable power copying lens system having an intermediate range of variable magnification with superior distortion aberration compensation and compact size. The lens system includes, in order from the object side, a first lens group having a negative focal length, a second lens group having a positive focal length and a third lens group having a negative focal length. The distance between the first and second lens groups and the distance between the second and third lens groups is variable simultaneously with variation of the overall lens system position to thereby maintain the distance between the object surface and image surface constant.

    • A mount and mechanism for a symmetrical zoom lens in which the outer lens elements are stationary relative to the lens housing. The inner elements on one side of the center move in unison on one shaft driven in symmetrically opposite direction relative to another shaft on which the inner lens elements on the other side of the lens center move.The entire zoom lens housing is mounted for sliding movement, between object and image, on a carriage which is in turn mounted for movement along a stationary frame. The frame includes an iris cam which is in engagement with an iris cam follower which in turn is connected by a linkage to the lens iris to control the lens aperture in response to the axial position along the carriage of the lens housing. The maximum opening of the lens iris is at the highest magnification and the minimum opening of the lens aperture is at the lower magnification.

    • A folded optical system for scanning an object and projecting its image in four modes of operation. In one mode, a stationary object is scanned by moving mirrors and its conjugate image projected at unity magnification onto a moving image surface. In a second mode, conjugate distances are varied to project an image at other than unity magnification. In a third mode, the optical system remains stationary and the object is moved relative to it to enable imaging of objects larger than the scan travel of the optics. In a fourth mode, the optics again remain stationary and an add-reflector is introduced to create a reflection cavity to increase the object conjugate for minified imaging of large moving objects. Mirrors and lens are movable to effect magnification changes.
