    • A control valve for the fuel return in an injection line in internal combustion engines, which has a valve tappet which is arranged in a longitudinally displaceable manner and which exposes larger valve cross sections as the opening stroke increases and can be actuated against the restoring force of a valve spring by an electric magnet coil. The opening stroke and hence the valve cross section can be adjusted by a spring assembly having at least two actuating springs which can be deflected in the axial direction of the valve tappet and are arranged in parallel and in such a way that they can be subjected to force in an axially offset manner with the result that different resultant spring forces counteract the actuating movement in successive sections of the spring travel. To allow accurate setting of the valve position, especially in the intermediate positions, the invention makes provision for the actuating travel of the valve tappet to be limited by an axially displaceable stop which is in operative connection with a second actuating drive, independent of the magnet coil, and, in a direction opposed to the actuating drive with the spring assembly.

    • A control valve assembly for use in a pump or injector of fuel injection systems is provided. A pump or injector body has a pumping chamber, and a valve chamber. The valve chamber defines a valve seat and has an axial guiding portion. A plunger is disposed in the pumping chamber. A valve body disposed in the valve chamber controls fuel. The valve body has a valve stem defining a seating surface. The valve body further has a valve guide in sliding engagement with the valve chamber guiding portion. The valve body is axially movable with respect to the valve chamber over a stroke range. The valve guide has an outer engagement surface that slidingly engages the valve chamber guiding portion with a clearance fit of at least about 5 micrometers in one embodiment. In another embodiment, the axial length of the engagement surface is at most about 7 millimeters. The reduced axial length and/or the clearance fit improve initial sealing performance and sealing performance over the life cycle of the product.

    • A hydraulically actuated fuel injector is disclosed having an injector body defining an actuation fluid inlet, an actuation fluid cavity, a nozzle outlet, and a needle control chamber. An actuator is attached to the injector body and a first valve member is disposed in the injector body and is moveable in response to the actuator between a first position in which the actuation fluid inlet is open to the actuation fluid cavity and a second position in which the actuation fluid inlet is closed to the actuation fluid cavity. A needle valve member is disposed in the injector body and is moveable between an open position in which the nozzle outlet is open and a closed position in which the nozzle outlet is blocked. The needle valve member has a closing hydraulic surface exposed to pressure in the needle control chamber. A second valve member is disposed in the injector body and is moveable in response to the actuator, while the actuation inlet is open to the actuation fluid cavity, between an off position in which the needle control chamber is open to a source of high pressure fluid and an on position in which the needle control chamber is open to a low pressure passage. A fuel injection system including a plurality of such hydraulically actuated fuel injectors is also disclosed.

    • An electromagnetically operable valve has a valve seat and a valve body. A valve stem forms a guide part provided with a shoulder, by way of which guide part the valve is axially movably guided in a valve guide. A valve disk which, in the closing position of the valve, while forming a hydraulically effective seat diameter, rests against the valve seat. An electromagnetic adjusting device and a spring guide the valve into respective end positions. A control space with a fuel pressure bore is formed between a shoulder of the guide part and the valve disk, and hydraulic forces in the control space act upon the shoulder and the valve disk. In order to construct an electromagnetically operable valve such that an optimal closing and opening function of the valve is ensured for its whole operating time, it is provided that the hydraulically effective seat diameter of the valve is limited such that the hydraulic forces acting upon the shoulder of the guide part and the valve disk in the closing position of the valve are essentially balanced.

    • A fuel injector includes an injector body that defines a nozzle outlet, and a needle control chamber that is in fluid communication with a needle control passage. A needle valve member is positioned in the injector body, and has a closing hydraulic surface exposed to fluid pressure in the needle control chamber. The needle valve member is moveable between a first position in which the nozzle outlet is blocked, and a second position in which the nozzle outlet is open. The needle control passage includes a dual flow rate orifice. Hydraulic fluid is displaced into the needle control chamber through the dual flow rate orifice when the needle valve member moves from its second position toward its first position. Hydraulic fluid is displaced out of the needle control chamber through the dual flow rate orifice when the needle valve member moves from its first position toward its second position. A compression spring is operably positioned to bias the needle valve member toward its first position.
