    • An apparatus achieves an exposure control for getting an image with the best SN without a mechanical iris and an image processing which is good at the color-reappearance and the gradation property with a simple digital processing circuit. When the film image is read by the line sensor 14 which has an electric shutter function, the electric shutter, the film feeding speed and the analog amplifier 16 are controlled totally so as to obtain images with the best SN from high to low transmittance negatives. And, when the dot sequential R, G, B digital signals are processed digitally, the offset values and the gain volumes of the respective R, G, B are calculated based on the maximum value and the minimum value which are detected by the respective R, G, B digital signals, the calculated offset values of the respective R, G, B are added to the dot sequential R, G, B digital signals which are obtained during the re-scanning, and the calculated gain volumes of the respective R, G, B are multiplied by the offset dot-sequential R, G, B digital signals so as to adjust the white balance and the black balance.

    • The present invention is directed to an electronic film viewer system comprising a cartridge holding section in which a film cartridge is detachably mounted with a processed film loaded therein, a film feed section for feeding a film or a rewinding it, an image inputting section for optically picking up an image from a frame in a frame position to obtain an image signal (image data), a multi-image creating section for storing each frame image data in a multi-image memory section in a way to be assigned to a corresponding one of portion images into which a display image screen is divided, and a switching section for effecting switching to a multi-image area or the image data directly from one frame of the film by an operation section and sending any one to an external display section. The multi-image memory section allows a display of the multi-image area with a storage capacity corresponding to one image area and desired image data can be retrieved and displayed.

    • A film correction system adjusts a relative position of film containing an area for information and a scanner of the film area. The system includes a scanner for scanning the film area at a film plane. A film drive moves the film along the film plane. A focused beam separate from the film area scanner scans a film edge in the film for determining a location of the film edge. A circuit is coupled to the focused beam scanner for changing a relative position of the film area scanner and the film area. The film edge scanner is a flying spot scanner, and the apparatus includes signal processors for processing the sprocket information. The system may be retrofit to an existing telecine apparatus. A separate coil may be used to provide deflection of a flying spot scanner used to scan the picture information on the film.

    • A method and apparatus for controlling the positioning of a filmstrip in a film scanning gate using signal states derived from a pair of spaced film sprocket holes or perforation ("perf") sensors on either side of the film scanning gate in conjunction with line scan counts and filmstrip drive, stepper motor half-step counts. The filmstrip is advanced by the stepper motor in a pre-scan operation through the film scanning gate for line scanning the image frames at a low resolution and advanced in the reverse direction back into the film scanning gate for high resolution scanning in a main-scan operation. A line scan array of line scan counts and half-step counts as well as first and second perf arrays of half-step counts and perf sensor states are generated in the pre-scan operation. Image frame borders are located in the pre-scan operation as border line scan counts and correlated in the line scan array to the half step counts to go to in the main-scan. During main-scan, the filmstrip image frames are positioned in the scanning gate by reverse drive of the stepper motor in a coarse and fine alignment process employing the half step counts to go to and the state transitions in the first and second perf arrays. Filmstrip jams, slips and perforation defects are detected from perf state durations in the perf arrays in relation to the associate half-step counts.

    • In a digital film scanner, invalid image pixel data is identified by a logic circuit which responds jointly to an over range signal from the scanner analog to digital converter and the most significant bit of the pixel data. The logic circuit discriminates between input pixel analog voltages representing valid maximum or minimum pixel data values and values which are outside the conversion range of the A/D converter which correspond to invalid pixel data. An image processing computer selectively responds to these indications to substitute nearby valid pixel data for calculation and to provide appropriate operator warnings or even system shutdown depending on the number of successive invalid pixel data occurrences.
