    • The present invention relates to an antenna arrangement comprising a dielectric medium (2) with a first side (3) and a second side (4), with a feeding arrangement (6; 6′) on the first side and at least one slot (5; 62, 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 72, 73) in a ground plane on the second side, where the feeding arrangement comprises at least a first (13; 13′; 37; 37′), a second (14; 14′; 38; 38′), a third (15; 15′; 41; 41′) and a fourth (16; 16′, 42; 42′) feeding conductor, each intersecting the gap of the slot (5; 62, 63, 64, 65; 66, 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 72, 73), where each intersection constitute a feeding point (17, 18, 19, 20; 39, 40, 43, 44, 50, 51, 52, 53) for the antenna arrangement (1; 1′; 1″; 1′″). In a first mode of operation, a first constant E-field (26) that is directed across the slot is obtained. In a second mode of operation, a second E-field (28) which is directed across the slot, having a sinusoidal variation is obtained. In a third mode of operation, a third E-field (30) which is directed across the slot, having a sinusoidal variation, is obtained.

    • An antenna (100) for RF communications. The antenna includes a radiating member (102) which is substantially tubular so as to define a cavity (104) therein. The radiating member (102) is made of a conductive material having a non-conductive slot (106) extending from a first portion (108) of the radiating member (102) to a second portion (110). An impedance matching device (120) is electrically connected to the radiating member (102) via a conductor (134) to match an impedance of the radiating member (102) with an impedance of a signal source or an impedance of a load. The impedance matching device (120), the conductor (134), and at least a portion of the radiating member radiating element (102) can formed from a single conductive sheet, or molded or extruded as a single conductive structure.

    • A digital signal, beam radiation antenna consisting of a cylindrical mast having an inner tubular conductor and an outer tubular conductor, and means for exciting said inner conductor to establish a traveling wave internal to said antenna. Moreover, there are spaced slots in said outer conductor defining an illumination aperture coupled to the inner conductor and for radiating the beam from the antenna. This establishes the illumination along the aperture so as to produce a high beam tilt of the order of 0.6-3.5 degrees from the horizontal for the beam radiation; further, for varying the phase from layer to layer, such that there are substantially no null variations in the elevation pattern of the beam.

    • A surface conforming sense antenna is integrated with the surface skin of an aircraft by removing a rectangular looped strip of a metallized exterior composite surface skin. The remaining interior metallized portion isolated from the exterior metallized section forms an antenna sense element. The inner metallized portion is connected to an ADF radio receiver to function as a sense antenna in conjunction with a loop antenna. The gap between the metallized inner portion of the exterior metallized section allows lightning energy to be discharged thereacross. The modification does not impose a weight penalty or a wind drag penalty and does not degrade lightning protection for the composite aircraft.

    • An elliptically polarized antenna is disclosed which includes a conductive mast having at least one elongated slot extending longitudinally of the mast at the outer periphery thereof and wherein energy is fed to the slot for exciting horizontally polarized waves. A pair of conductive elements are associated with each slot for exciting vertically polarized waves. This includes first and second elements each having a connecting end portion extending transversely from and connected to the mast near the midpoint of one elongated side of the slot with the element having a pair of free end portions extending in substantially opposing directions parallel to the slot. The free end portions have their respective lengths chosen relative to each other for purposes of controlling the split of the radiated energy between the horizontally and vertically polarized waves.
