    • In a dual-gas-blast puffer-type circuit-breaker a fixed insulating nozzle body (4) is integrated into a fixed insulating piston (10), forming thus a structural component. Said structural component is mounted on a fixed cylinder (11). Up to the large inner diameter of the latter the nozzle contour may expand freely, allowing thus a more effective removal of the arc plasma from the nozzle region.This feature facilitates interrupting the arc by increasing the cooling rate of the gas flow past the arc.The movable arc contact piece (17) is provided with a conical transition member between the nozzle shaped inlet side and the cylindrical base (16). That conical transition member is working like a movable piston exposed to the downstream gas flow pressure. Thus at least partly a selfcompensation of the increased gas pressure on the compression cylinder takes place in cases where large short circuit-currents are to be interrupted. This feature represents the precondition for a simple and thus reliable drive.

    • A circuit breaker, in particular a high-voltage circuit breaker employing SF.sub.6 gas, possesses a fixed contact part, and a movable switching piece which is provided with a blast nozzle and can be actuated by a drive. During the process of tripping out, a compression space is rendered smaller to generate a flow of gas towards the blast nozzle and an arc produced during switching out by movement of a movable cylinder over a stationary piston head. In order to reduce the drive power, the compression space is surrounded by a coil for generating a magnetic field. The coil is capable of being switched into the current path in such a manner that, during the process of tripping out, current does not flow through the coil until disconnection has been effected at the main contact point. An auxiliary piston is located in the compression space. The auxiliary piston is capable of being driven by the magnetic field toward the contact point in order to render the compression space smaller.

    • According to this invention, therein is provided a puffer-type compressed gas circuit interrupter comprising stationary and movable contacts and a stationary cylinder, a movable piston, connected to the movable contacts and which slides in the stationary cylinder to compress the sulfur hexafluoride insulating gas therebetween to provide a puffing action to extinguish the arc drawn between the separating stationary and movable contacts. The puffer apparatus is disposed within an insulating tube which has a plurality of openings therein disposed about the stationary contact. The tube, with the puffer apparatus disposed therein, is disposed within an outer metallic housing in which an insulating barrier is further disposed between the insulating tube and the housing. The insulating barrier, which lines the inside of the outer housing, is disposed adjacent to the apertures in the insulating tube so as to prevent a dynamic insulation breakdown to ground.

    • A gas-blast switch or circuit-interrupter contains a fixed set of contacts and a movable set of contacts. Each contact set possesses an arc contact and a rated current contact coaxially surrounding the related arc contact. Operatively associated and co-movable with the movable contact set is a blast nozzle which surrounds the arc contact of such movable contact set. In the cut-on position the blast nozzle is closed by the fixed arc contact and is operatively connected with a pressure chamber which can be pressurized during a cut-off stroke. At the outflow end of at least one of the arc contacts there are arranged means in order to axially and outwardly deflect the switching gas flowing-out of such end during the cut-off stroke. The deflecting means comprise deflection hoods of essentially cup-shaped configuration which are open at their ends confronting one another and possess a base or floor portion containing a half toroidally shaped deflection surface at the peripheral edge of which there merges an essentially cylindrical portion or section. Each such cylindrical portion carries a plurality of tongues which protrude inwardly from its inner wall and which are arranged at a substantially uniform circumferential spacing from one another.

    • A puffer piston circuit breaker has a stationary contact and a movable contact, of which at least the movable contact is tubular in shape. A piston-cylinder puffer assembly is fixedly connected with the movable contact for providing a flow of gas to extinguish the arc when the cylinder and the piston are displaced with respect to each other. In order to reduce the driving force required to actuate the moving parts to effect a flow of gas, a supplemental piston-cylinder assembly is also provided, the compression space of which is compressed by a helical spring device actuated by the current during a switching operation, such that additional quenching gas is supplied to the extinguishing flow. At least part of the current is commutated onto the spring during a switching action. The helical spring is securely clamped on one end and on the other end is fixedly connected with a movable piston of the supplemental piston-cylinder assembly. When current is flowing through the helical spring, the windings contract so that the movable piston is urged against a stationary piston member at one end of the supplemental piston-cylinder assembly.

The first constriction of the device is provided by an annular part of a conductive material.In this switch, the dielectric strengthening of the quenching zone is increased by preventing, to a large extent, the pushing together of the electric field between the device and the first switching part. Such a switch is particularly distinguished by reliable switching of high voltages in the case of a short circuit.

    • A three-phase combined type circuit breaker is disclosed which comprises a common housing, three-phase interrupting units in said common housing, movable contacts of the interrupting units connected through link mechanisms to operating devices for three phases respectively provided outside of the common housing, the switching operation thus being performed by phase. Rotary shafts are disposed in substantially the same plane in the link mechanisms. Each of the rotary shafts is provided with a connector for the movable contact, a connector for the operating device, and a sealing arrangement positioned between the two connectors for allowing the rotary shaft to rotate while holding the common housing in hermetic condition. This construction makes up a three-phase combined type circuit breaker capable of being operated by phase. The arrangement and construction of the three-phase rotary shafts simplifies maintenance and inspection of the interrupting units and the operating devices.
