    • This power circuit-breaker has at least one cylindrically constructed arcing chamber which is provided with a stationary contact, with a moving contact and with a quenching zone between the two contacts. A shaft of the moving contact is permanently connected to a blowout volume which is closed off on the stationary contact side by an insulating nozzle through which at least one flow channel passes. The arcing chamber has a first compression volume which is operatively connected to the blowout volume and to a second compression volume. It is intended to provide a power circuit-breaker in which the blowing-out of the arc with pure SF.sub.6 gas is made stronger. This is achieved by providing a moving auxiliary piston between the first compression volume and the second compression volume and by the auxiliary piston being connected to the moving contact via a direction-changing device.

    • An electrical switch of the compression type wherein for quenching the arc drawn in a gap formed between the contacts as they disengage, a pressurized gaseous quenching medium is caused to flow into the gap. The quenching medium is compressed during a so-called pre-compression phase of the switch contact movement, and prior to disengagement of the contacts, by a piston and cylinder arrangement surrounding the movable contact, there being an energy-storing device in association with the piston which latter is actuated in one direction within its cylinder by the movable contact during a contact-closing movement to bring the gaseous quenching medium through a one-way valve into the cylinder and also store energy. During the first phase of a contact-opening movement the stored energy acts upon the piston causing it to move in the opposite direction thus compressing the gas within the cylinder and subsequently freed to flow into the gap between the contacts as soon as they disengage.

    • A high-voltage circuit breaker having a fixed contact and a movable contact also has a piston/cylinder system for generating a quenching gas flow to extinguish an arc during a switching action. The piston of the piston/cylinder system is connected to the movable contact. For the purpose of increasing the pressure in the quenching gas flow and for extending the blowing process, an auxiliary piston is provided on the opposite side of the fixed cylinder wall as the main piston. The auxiliary piston is driven in conjunction with the movable contact and the main piston of the piston/cylinder system in such a manner that it is moved in the first half of the circuit-breaking movement in opposition to the direction of movement of the main piston, and in the second half of the circuit-breaking movement in synchronism with the piston of the piston/cylinder system, into a circuit breaking position. In the first half of the movement the space between the auxiliary piston and the fixed cylinder wall is compressed so that the gas located therein is pushed into the space between the cylinder and the main piston of the piston/cylinder system.

    • An electric switch includes two quenching nozzles which are arranged opposite each other at the distance of the switching gap; a contact tube; a guide tube and a longitudinally movable switching tube for bridging the switching gap which is coupled, together with a movable pressure piston of a pressure piston/pressure cylinder arrangement provided for generating a quenching medium flow acting on the arc, to a common drive. In order to improve such a switch still further with respect to the quenching medium flow, the pressure piston is connected rigidly to the switching tube and is arranged in a stationary pressure cylinder which is connected in the region of its end surrounding the contact tube via passage openings in the contact tube to the interior of the latter. The pressure piston is connected rigidly to a suction piston in a suction cylinder which is connected in the region of its end facing the pressure cylinder, via holes in the guide tube, to the interior thereof.
