    • A magnetorheological (MR) piston ring includes an MR-piston-ring body disposable within a cylinder of an MR damper along a central longitudinal axis. The MR-piston-ring body has a radially inner surface defining a boundary of a longitudinally-extending MR passageway. The MR-piston-ring body includes a surface portion which is slidingly engagable with the cylinder and which has first and second longitudinal ends. The surface portion includes at least one surface groove each defining a secondary MR passageway and extending between the first and the second longitudinal ends. The surface groove is substantially straight and tilted with respect to a line drawn on the surface portion parallel to the central longitudinal axis. An MR damper including the MR piston ring is also described.

    • A monotube shock absorber assembly includes a housing (20), a gas cup (32) slidably disposed in the interior (28) of the housing (20), and a piston (42) slidably disposed in the interior (28) of the housing (20) to define an oil compression chamber (48) between the piston (42) and the gas cup (32). A cushion (58) engages one of the piston (42) and the gas cup (32) and extends axially into the oil compression chamber (48) for intermittent contact with the other of the piston (42) and the gas cup (32). The cushion (58) is a resilient material and deforms in response to the cushion (58) contacting the other of the piston (42) and the gas cup (32). In a preferred embodiment, the cushion (58) defines a central opening (60) for decreasing the axial stiffness of the cushion (58) and engages the gas cup (32) for intermittent contact with the piston (42). In a preferred embodiment the cushion (58) presents an anchor (72) for retaining the cushion (58) against the piston (42) for intermittent contact with the gas cup (32).

    • The invention relates to a hydraulic damper (1), in particular for the suspension system of a motor vehicle comprising a tube (2) filled with working liquid, inside of which a slidable piston assembly (3) is placed. To increase an amount of dissipated energy during extremely fast compression strokes, the damper (1) is provided with an additional compression valve system (17a), preferably in a form of a preassembled add-on device, which is attached to the piston rod (4) in a compression chamber (10) and comprises a hollow main body (18a) surrounding the piston rod (4) and provided with a substantially flat first abutment surface (19) with a radially inner portion and a radially outer portion defining the close position of the system (17a), and at least one channel (20) the inlet of which is located within the area of the first abutment surface (19), a compression spring (24) supported within the hollow main body (18a) underneath the first abutment surface (19), a substantially rigid and relatively thin plate (26a) biased by the spring (24) against a second abutment surface (27) defining the open position of the system (17a), wherein the plate is free to deflect and displace between said open position and said close position, and the outside diameter of said hollow main body (18a) is less than the inner diameter of the tube (2) and the hollow main body (18a) is provided with an annular groove (21) inside of which a cross-cut ring (22) is disposed to form a sliding fit of the hollow main body (18) within the tube (2).

    • A system and method of controlling engine vibration mounted within a vehicle including at least one hydraulic mount, each mount including a fluid chamber. A pair of accelerometers sense relative acceleration across the mount between the engine and the frame and generate a relative acceleration signal. A control unit is electrically connected to the accelerometers. The control unit is adapted to generate an electronic control signal in response to the relative acceleration signal. The control device is responsive to the electric control signal for controlling the damping force of the hydraulic mount. A control algorithm calibrates the control unit such that maximum vibration damping occurs at and around the engine resonance bounce frequency.
