The traces include terminals for coupling to conductive connections on a base on which the coil assembly is to be mounted. The probe further includes one or more field sensors, which are attached to the mechanical fixture at known positions with respect to the one or more field sensors and are arranged to sense the magnetic fields generated by the one or more field generators and to output signals responsively to the sensed magnetic fields. The processor is arranged to process the signals so as to assess a distortion of the magnetic fields sensed by the field sensors at the tested location.

The layers are arranged to reduce eddy current distortion in a magnetic field generated by the magnetic position tracking system. Another medical tool includes a core including a ferromagnetic material and an outer coating layer on the core. The coating layer includes a conductive material configured to produce eddy current distortion so as to cancel at least part of a distortion caused by the core in a magnetic field of the magnetic position tracking system. Yet another medical tool includes an electrically conducting loop-shaped element having an electrical discontinuity introduced therein, so as to reduce eddy current distortion caused by the loop-shaped element.

摘要： A surgical tracking system includes a wireless position sensor, which is adapted to be implanted in a bone of a subject, and responsively to externally-applied magnetic fields within a working volume of the tracking system, to generate and transmit sensor signals indicative of coordinates of the position sensor within the bone. A plurality of field generator coils are adapted to generate the magnetic fields so as to define the working volume. The field generators are fixed in predetermined locations to a reference structure, which is movable relative to the subject in order to position the working volume so as to intercept the bone. A system controller is coupled to receive and process the sensor signals so as to determine the coordinates of the position sensor within the bone.

The first and second fields are measured using first and second position sensors respectively associated with the first and second objects.
