摘要： An apparatus and method for connecting two tubular vessels together in a side-by-side or tangential manner is disclosed. The apparatus has an annulus and at least one series of fingers connected to and extending away from the annulus. Each finger is preferably heat-formed into an arcuate shape. In use, a deployment apparatus is used to constrain the fingers of the apparatus to be in a relatively planar configuration. The deployment apparatus containing the apparatus is placed between and in contact with the two tubular vessels so that one tubular vessel is above the device and one tubular vessel is below the device and so that the fingers of the device come into contact with the tissue of the vessels. As the fingers penetrate the vessels the constraint on the fingers is removed so that the fingers can assume their unbiased, heat-formed arcuate shape. In this way, the fingers penetrate and grasp the tissue of the vessels so that the apparatus grasps the vessels and pulls the vessels toward each other.

The method includes disposing a specimen to be analyzed in a disposable diagnostic apparatus. Then, channeling a first fluid through a first channel into a first chamber and causing an actuator member to expand upon contact with the fluid from a compressed, deactivated state to an expanded, activated state, thereby causing a second fluid to be pumped outwardly from the first chamber under bias of the actuator to a second chamber for analysis.

摘要： A disposable, point-of-care diagnostic cartridge and method of performing an invitro diagnostic test on a specimen are provided. The cartridge includes a base having a mixing chamber is formed thereon. The mixing chamber has a mixing chamber inlet and a mixing chamber outlet. A detection chamber is formed downstream from the mixing chamber in fluid communication therewith. The mixing chamber includes a mixing reservoir bounded at least in part by a flexible upper member. The flexible upper member is expandable to accommodate an increase in volume of fluid and collapsible to dispense fluid outwardly from the mixing reservoir. The mixing chamber inlet has an inlet valve member that provides one way flow of fluid into the mixing reservoir. The mixing chamber outlet has an outlet valve member that provides one way flow of fluid outwardly from the mixing reservoir to the detection chamber.

摘要： A mechanical actuator system for performing an assay on a disposable diagnostic cartridge having a plurality of fluid-containing blisters includes a body configured to carry the disposable diagnostic cartridge in stationary relation thereon. A lead screw is operably supported by the body and a drive motor is operably connected to the lead screw. A carriage is threadedly coupled to the lead screw, with the carriage having upper and lower wall spaced from one another. A roller is operably carried by the upper wall of the carriage. The roller is spaced from the lower wall for passage of the diagnostic cartridge between the roller and the lower wall. A driven gear is operably coupled to the roller in meshed engagement with the lead screw. Actuation of the drive motor causes the lead screw to rotate, thereby translating the carriage along the lead screw and concurrently causing the driven gear to rotate the roller.

The apparatus has a body with at least one chamber containing an actuator member. The chamber is in fluid communication with an upstream first fluid channel and a downstream second fluid channel. The actuator member has a compressed, deactivated state and an expanded, activated state. The actuator member transitions from the compressed, deactivated state to the expanded, activated state upon contact with fluid flowing through the first fluid channel. The actuator member pumps fluid outwardly from the first chamber through the second fluid channel during the transition from its compressed, deactivated state to its expanded, activated state. The pumped fluid can be channeled to other chambers within the body and/or to an analysis chamber within the body for study.

Each of the planetary gear sets includes first, second and third members. The five torque transmitting mechanisms are selectively engageable to interconnect one of the first, second, and third members with another of the first, second, third members, and a stationary element. The torque transmitting mechanisms are selectively engageable in combinations of at least three to establish at least eight forward speed ratios and at least one reverse speed ratio between the input member and the output member. A first of the five torque-transmitting mechanisms is a selectable one-way clutch engageable to interconnect the third member of the fourth planetary gear set with the stationary member.
